Finished DCF process with one unexpected problem

We finally finished the DCF process and have the visa in hand. The visa is valid for 6 months(until the end of October)and we were planning to move to the US in August. The problem is my wife has recieved a great work opportunity that ends in December. How can I get an extension if possible? Is there a form for this? Any help is appreciated.

Enter the US, activate the visa, return back to home country, come back to the US in December.

Enter the US, activate the visa, return back to home country, come back to the US in December.

Wish it would be that easy. Cost of flight and lodging are prohibitive, not to mention the recent addition to the family makes it almost impossible. Don't forget those annoying volcanic possibilities.

Did you try to contact the consulate and see if they would re-issue the visa for a later date under your circumstances?

Example above was what my husband and I did but we didn't have to deal with volcano issues back in 2007.
