Kind of unrelated buy funny.

When I was in my youth (early 20's) I got a job driving a moving van for Allied Van Lines. On my first over the road trip I was stopped in VA for speeding :bonk:

The VA State Trooper took my liscence and info then asked me - "What's your height and weight?"

Now 1st off I was a paranoid wreck - so thinking he was asking about the height and weight of the moving van I responded - "13' 6" and 30,000 lbs". Well that was no laughing matter at the moment.

He proceeded to chew my butt out so bad and then gave me a very nice citation.

Only after the 1/2 hour long "interview" did he crack a smile a laugh about the height and weight remark I had made - realizing that I was truly being honest in my answer.

The last laught was by him at my EXPENSE!!!

Live and learn - I don't know why but this brought back an old memory - only difference was I was not trying to be confrntational -

I think the police may have been provoked but they should know the difference between sarcasm and

a possible terrorist threat. The counter-provocation reminds me of these words: dumb and dumber.

I would have just stopped arguing with them and politely searched their persons & vehicle for 5 hours

and you'd bet they would learn to deal with the questions on their next trip out. Their smart-#### friends

would also be forewarned as well.

By being polite but firm they would come out heroes instead of idiots.

They knew darn well the kid wasn't a terrorist threat. They were responding to his confrontational attitude.

Maybe the cops in Canada are extremely courteous, in spite of any ill treatment they get from civilians. I don't know. The cops in the US are not like that. If you give them attitude then they'll respond in kind. They don't like getting jacked around or having their time wasted by infantile behavior. One of the worst questions you can ask a cop is "why". The fact is that they don't have to tell you why until you're being booked.

All Canadians should probably be given a pamphlet describing how to behave when confronted by law enforcement in the US.

Umm, no.

Ok, I worded that wrong.

All Canadians who are going to be entering the US should be given a pamphlet describing how to behave when confronted by law enforcement in the US. The same for anyone else entering the US. The experience can be quick and painless, or it can be time consuming and difficult. The choice is usually up to the person being confronted.

Canadian law enforcement would deal with this in quite the same way. We don't need a pamphlet, there really is no difference. Law enforcement is law enforcement. You don't give them any guff unless you want to deal with the less-than-desirable consequences.

"Yes, sir" and "No, sir" as appropriate are the most important phrases when dealing with the RCMP or OPP.

They have all been Knighted?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Still disagree.

It doesn't take a genious to get that being polite works. In any case of dealing with law enforcement. Being an a$$ doesn't get you anywhere.

Its common sense & if you need a pamphlet to tell you that....well, you've got issues.

Fair enough. Like I said, I don't know if the law enforcement is any different in Canada. I've been to Canada about half a dozen times, but never had to deal with anyone other than customs at the airport. There was one visit where I'd already cleared the customs counter, and had picked up my bags at the carousel, and I was waiting for the rest of my group to get through customs. Two customs officers approached me and asked to search my bags. I said "Sure, help yourself". They were polite enough, finished their search, and wished me a pleasant stay in Canada.

There are some countries where law enforcement officers are courteous to a fault, and if you badger them with questions they'll politely try to answer them. There are other countries where law enforcement are brusque and rude, and you don't dare challenge them in any way. In fact, in some countries you don't even ask a cop for directions because the only response you'll get is "Show me your passport!". Some of the cops in Vietnam seem downright scary, especially the ones who walk the sidewalk in front of the US consulate with AK47's!

I don't know if this kid and his girlfriend were actually surprised by the treatment they received (as they seemed to be in the recording), or if they knew damn well this was going to happen and intentionally provoked it. The latter seems likely, since they had the foresight to record the entire confrontation.

I'm a little surprised to see this on Alex Jone's website. He makes a living by being outraged at the US government, and by promoting a vast array of conspiracy theories, but he IS an American. You'd think he'd know how a cop is going to respond when you give them ####### like this.

Interesting little story all recorded Here.

US Border Agent states he "can do anything" and people crossing the border have to obey all his commands. He also states he stops about three terrorist per day trying to cross the US/Canadian border.

This guy is a complete idiot. His wife must be very happy with him. The officer had waaaay too much patience with him. Terrorist or not, his loud mouth and attitude got his shopping spree delayed. lol

I also find interesting that the guy recorded what was supposed to be an uneventful cross over the boarder...ummmm, not suspicious at at all, sure....:) The officer could have searched him and erase the recording if he was in the wrong but he didn't. Just a guy with an attitude trying to stirr up something just for the heck of it or for publicity, if you ask me. The boarder officers are not put there to take anyone's crappy atitudes nor they're flight attendants to just sit there and smile and greet every jack into the country. It's a priviledge to come to US, not a right. I would love to see a video recording of this whole thing. :)

I wish I hadn't listened to this because it's gone and put me in the mood to play belligerent teenager, and I'm trying to fly to my sister's graduation tonight. :P

Hopefully the TSA guys at the airport don't give me any hassle.

I agree though, the presence of the recording from beginning to end makes me smell setup as well. What is that rule - by observing, we change what we observe - there's a name for it. But I suppose we already knew that it held true for human behavior just as well as it holds true for other observations.
