Yes it was easy to get married in u.s. it was very last min. for us we got engaged july 7 and married on july 28 and he had to fly back on july 31 at the time we didn't even know anything about immigration, and was considering me immigrating to Holland (saw how difficult it was vs. USA) so in the end we decided to have him immigrate to here which is why we have such a time gap from marriage to filing I-130 (procrastination/research and the time we spent visiting each other not working on it).

I didn't know if you were venting or not sorry was trying to put a positive spin on it for you and I assumed you were venting, I shouldn't have assumed. I'm sure you and your hubby are stronger having gone through that situation which is a good thing. =)

I entered the website about Galveston, Tx & saw the requirements for weddings. With any kind of identification you can get married... is very easy. I know he told me is like that in US. Is good that you can tie the knot so easily, but maybe should be a little bit more difficult so ppl think thoroughly before getting married. Cause sometimes they are in Las Vegas drunk & next day they wake up married. hahaha!! I saw in movies... dont know if in real life someone who's drunk can be married.

Yep I noticed that took you guys almost 2 years to send I-130. Was wondering why! You have long history & I think is hard to be so much time apart & now this immigration process more. Every couple has his story & their hardships... I just wanted to let you know about the process of a Romanian getting married with a foreigner & documents required.

Gert didnt have to present any additional documents since he is foreigner? Here they asked for so many...

Right now I'm not complainin, when we were living it a little bit. We almost didnt get married cause Romanian requirements are so strict. Is birth certificate my husband's name misses an "e" than in his passport, driving license. so they were asking if he really is him? OMG, I was all sweatin' & thinking... what will happen now? Is all about pronunciation so later on when he got his other docs he filled in with an extra "e". Americans dont care about such small details & he was shocked about the Romanian rigidity. The clerk there said missing an "e" can mean you're a boy or girl, true - for Romanians. So was thinking...

He went to embassy to get celibacy proof, he did his birth certificate in Us with apostelle & was all for nothing? They almost rejected us, but then my husband was very firm & convinced them.

Before that we did blood tests, got the results went to my doctor to issue prenuptial certificate, doctor wasnt there (suffered a loss in her family-mother died)- so just the nurse was present. At the phone she told me how much would it cost, but then voila it costed more because he is foreigner. She listened to this other doctor & wanted to ripp off my husband. Make him pay 10x more than me. I quarreled with everyone there & in the way he just paid 2x. I said bet if my doctor was here this wouldnt have happened. She just wanted to issue mine & with him go wherever I want. Imagine that! In the end she called my doctor, bothered her a little bit & she gave good instructions.

The other unpleasant event was that we needed translator, & in the end we had 2 translators... & I paid both, although one came without me confirming that she needs to come. For me to think about it all right now is so funny... Getting married in Romania was like a foreplay to what is coming right now from USCIS & NVC. LOL!! Bring it on. I'm not scared of bureaucracy... Just kidding, I am.

Wow, what a story! We had a similar fun time getting married in Mexico. The big thing was that I had only gone down there with the intention of proposing and hadn't even thought it would be possible to get married so quickly. I think that otherwise, it might not have been so harrowing. We spent two days scrambling around the state and to and from Guadalajara, which is about an hour drive from her town. Good times.

What is the proof of celibacy and what did he have to do to get it?

What is the proof of celibacy and what did he have to do to get it?

For us was a master plpan to get married! Few months (2-3) before we investigated what we need. He needed from US birth certificate, "long form" with apostelle & asked a lawyer - took him 2 months to get it. He barely got it at limit of time before coming to me. Then went to the embassy in Bucharest to get proof of celibate (where he solemny SWORE he is single, not married in Us or elsewhere). He planned to stay there just a day, to obtain that.. There he found out needed to squeduel himself, make an appointment but he managed to persway the lady working there to make an exception. Got in my hometown took us 10 days to file for marriage (needed to gather all documents, translate his birth certificate, do medicals etc) an adventure at each corner. And the thing is certain documents (prenuptial medical certificate) expires in 24 hrs so you have to plan in detail when you get it to coordinate with the time of bringing the file to the mayor office.

And funny thing that we encountered was... when we were with the file ready, paid all taxes... then they say" Aw you have to go to notary sign a declaration togheter that you want to get married & you're not forced into it or bla bla!!" We were like whatttttttttttttt... Got there this notary had standard declaration & she said you need translator. I said I can translate, she looked at me with such demeaning eyes... GOD!!

Also after getting married we were still so stressed... afraid smth might me wrong or our marriage might be not recognized in US that we put Haga apostelle on the marriage certificate that recently I found out wasnt necessary.

WAS A TRAUMATIC COSTLY STRESSFULL ADVENTURE, BUT WE WERE TOGHETER & BELIVE IT OR NOT WAS VERY BEARABLE! THAT'S WHY LOVE IS SO WONDERFUL...

Just kidding, I am.

All they basically asked for was identification he used his passport and I think I used my drivers licence. Then we got the marriage licence they have a 3 day period you have to wait before you can get married, we then made an appointment at the city hall they had a week and weekend appointment open we took the weekday as it was cheaper rate to book. Other then that it was simple, but also nice we got married by a justice of the peace and said traditional vows and went out to lunch at a nice restaraunt in houston afterward. It does seem more strict in most other countries, but to be honest I'm glad it isn't here, I mean divorce rates might be high in u.s., but thats not the fault of the marriage rules that's just the fault of the people who got married, shouldn't be hard for people who are serious about it, most things are already hard enough like immigration for example =/.

It's been difficult not being able to physically be around each other, but we haven't missed a christmas or new years together since we have been a couple~! When we have visited each other it's been 2 months or more it has helped ease the times of separation and we talked on skype everyday for long hours or watch movies/play games online together sometimes. I'm so happy that we finally got the process started though, it was frustrating trying to figure it all out and send out that first packet, heh me and hubby are such perfectionists so yea that was a factor too I guess :bonk: .

I'm definitely scared of beauracracy specially if it got in the way of me and my hubby having a happy life "together", but I'm glad we may filers have all joined up to support each other.

you have to sign up to recieve notices. i think it's on the USCIS page. it is only good for the USCIS part. once you get to the NVC they do not have a system like that.

you don't have to do it, but you can. I never signed up for it.

I'm so annoyed the ppl at USCIS work more on k1 than cr1/ir1.

http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/monthly_filers.php?visa=1&form=1&scenter=1&option=1&sortby=2

They already aproved up to April. PFF!!!!!!!!!!!! We are frozen since 10 June. Is so obvious we are put on hold. :( The k1 are already making progress in April. We didnt even made much progress in March!!!!!!!!!

FOR HOW LONG WILL BE THIS SITUATION????????????????? When they will start approving the March, then April ppl in our category... if they keep on working on the k1. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

I'm sure it'll work out somehow, just don't make yourself get to worried/stressed, it's only June we filed last month, minimum wait time is prolly 3 month max is 5 month; try to keep busy and not think about it too much, we can always talk about other subjects here too thats what we are here for to support each other =). Talking about the wait all the time won't help for moral so a change of subject at times might be good for us all. Be strong and our time will come along~ :innocent:

“Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (Corinthians 13:4-7)
