Hi All,

Its been 2 months since We have filed for my K1 and not heard anything from the consulate yet.

My question is....can i apply for a tourist visa in the mean while and visit my Fiance ? Will that complicate the K1 process ?

Umm two months since you filed your petition? I am sorry I just don't know what part of the process you are on. Please fill in your timeline that helps a bunch :)

You won't hear anything from the consulate you aren't at this part of the process yet if you have just filed the petition. You are dealing with the USCIS.

If your cheque was cashed that you had sent in with the petition then you should have a case number. You then would be able to go onto the USCIS website and put in your case # and find out where your case is at.

Hi Mugdha,

Yep for starters, do fill in your time-line.Others can help you.

And you might have to wait a little longer.Right now the time-frame to get an approval is 5 months in both the service centers. But people have been getting approvals earlier than that,so you might be lucky.

Also, I think people do visit each other during the process,so you could. And if they ask you anything, you should be truthful at the immigrations counter and that you are following a proper process and would just not stay back in the states on a tourist visa.

Hope this helps for now.Wish you good luck for a speedy approval

As the PP said, where are you in the process?

If you only submitted your petition to either of the service centers two months ago, then you are mistaken as to the chain of events that will occur if you expect to hear from the consulate next. I suggest you read the flowchart -- http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

Your petition would need to first be approved by the USCIS, then sent to the NVC, and only after being cleared there would it be sent to the embassy the Petitioner declared in the I-129F.

No, you cannot visit the U.S. on a tourist visa while awaiting the result of a K-1 adjudication. It would appear you might wish to enter the U.S. for other reasons than tourism, specifically to stay and attempt to adjust your status. Which is OK under certain circumstances while on a tourist visa, but those circumstances are not your own.

Spend some time reading the guides here and browsing the forum to educate yourself on the process.

Hey Mugdha,

So you do have the NOA1 then and the receipt number then ,right?

Okay so that means they are now reviewing your application. What you can do now is set up an email account with USCIS.Add this case number in your portfolio and give a valid US number for text alerts and an email ID to receive notifications(like RFEs or approvals). Then each time you log in,you can check the last updated date field. If that changes that means they are handling your application and it is called a 'touch'.

It could mean nothing or it could mean something. But from what I see now, people have been geting approvals faster.Which service center btw?

Good luck and hope this helps for now :)
