Check out these pics - it's catastrophic. **, the city is under water up to Third Ave. The Wildhorse Saloon (most of Second Ave - the main entertainment area), Titans Stadium, and even the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center under water. I can't believe the pics from the Opryland Hotel - they're closing the place for a few months to get it back up and running. What a fcuking disaster. Spoke to my friends up there yesterday and I am told it's bad. Really bad.

wow. stay safe out there.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

People were comparing the government response to the oil spill to Katrina, but I'd say this is much more apt.

maybe tennessee has a crappy gov just like louisiana did.

this is getting lost with all the oil floating in the Gulf

It's because they are mostly white.

It's because they aren't asking for handouts

It's because they are handling their own #######.

See: Iowa in 2006 and the flooding there.

White People don't need FEMA and don't make good news.

If this flooding was in Detroit, you're damn right it'd be all over the news all the time and a government response team would be expected to be handing out free money and FEAM Trailers for everyone!

ATLANTA, Ga. -- More than 7,300 people in Tennessee registered for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the first 48 hours following the major disaster declared on May 4 due to severe spring storms and flooding.

FEMA and its federal partner agencies have deployed 1,166,400 liters of water. The American Red Cross continues to feed and shelter people with 14,173 meals and 11,546 snacks served. Community Relations teams are canvassing communities in designated counties offering individuals and small business owners information about available disaster assistance programs.

On Monday, Governor Phil Bredesen formally requested an expedited major disaster declaration for

52 counties for both Individual Assistance and Public Assistance. On Tuesday, President Obama approved a major disaster declaration for four counties. Six counties were added by Wednesday and 11 more on Thursday afternoon.

Counties designated to date are Carroll, Cheatham, Crockett, Davidson, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Haywood, Henderson, Hickman, Houston, Madison, McNairy, Montgomery, Obion, Perry, Shelby, Tipton and Williamson. This brings the total number of counties designated for Individual and Public Assistance to 21.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated counties can apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time).

FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
