Hoppla which languages do you speak? Just out of curiosity. I studied myself about 4 of them but now I narrow it down to about 2 fluent ones ;)

BTW Congrats for the interview date!!!

I have been trying to stay away from here so I don't drive myself crazy thinking about the interview questions :bonk:

Thanks! :)

I'm fluent in Swedish, English, Spanish & Norwegian. I used to be fluent in French but have forgotten sooo much bc I never use it, I understand and can read German, Danish and most Portuguese and used to be able to speak Portuguese, Indonesian and a little Greek. I traveled a lot when I lived in Europe and always tried to pick up the language (hardest one so far was Thai, didn't get further than a few greetings) but since I moved here over 4 years ago I haven't been able to afford any travels to other countries :( It is sad how fast you forget when you don't use it.

That's great, you really have a gift ---- to learn different languages  smart

I speak Albanian and English, I did study also French and Italian (since I don't use them at all, I forgot most of my French, but I undestand Italian well). It can be fixed if we go to Europe for some months France and Italy (there is only a small problem $$$$$)

Yeah, it was so much easier to travel when I lived there. Not only to Europe but the rest of the world. You're right though, all that it takes is to go there for a while and it will come back to you.

Ya, no kidding! I'm so out of practice..I used to speak french pretty well. I took a class in college and spent a semester in France with different host families, total immersion sort of thing and by the end of it my host parents said they could barely hear my accent anymore.. that was in 2003.. Also the last time I travelled outside of the US.

Now? I'd be lucky if I can remember what the french word is for common everyday things :crying:

Ahhh.. I can't wait to go back to europe.

Hubby and I are going to buy Rossetta stone to learn portuguese and go to portugal for our 'real' honeymoon hopefully next year!

Hubby used to speak portuguese because he spent a semester in high school in Brazil.. And me, I'm just being overly confident that I can pick it up and keep up with him,

Sigh.. I love languages too. And travelling. But yeah the $$$ is all going to wedding & USCIS this year

WOw! Thats quite impressive Hoppla. You are officially my inspiration lol. I LOVE languages myself and looking to eventually work for the UN translating. I speak French, Spanish, English and my native language called Chichewa. I live in Switzerland (well just my family now that I am in the US) and had to take German classes of which I can only remember 10 words or so hehe..and I also had to study Latin and Greek again, which I barely remember a word lol..I think portuguese is my next mission.

Anyway my interview is tomorrow at 10:50am eastern time and I think I am all ready. Having butterflies in my stomach already though *sigh*

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WITH INTERVIEWS THIS WEEK!!! :D

Holy cow, how did you learn them?! :o That's so impressive!

Swedish is my native language. We spoke English at home when I was little (Mom is Swedish, Dad is from East Africa) and then we started learning it in school in 4th grade, in 7th grade I started taking French, and then added Spanish in 10th grade. After high school I lived in Spain for a year and studied only Spanish and continued when I came back to the university in Sweden. I studied Latin & Greek in 10-12th grade too and then worked in Greece one summer so I learned how to speak it a little. Same with Portuguese, I worked in Portugal one summer and then traveled in Brazil and with it being so similar to Spanish I learnt it very quick. Norwegian is similar to Swedish (like Spanish and Portuguese) and I learnt how to speak and write it as well while working in Norway 1.5 years, when I came back to Sweden I had a job where I had to speak Norwegian (like outsourcing customer service, they had to think they were calling Norway). I picked up Indonesian when I backpacked over there for 2.5 months. I bought a travel parleur and practiced with the kids in the village every day :) Tried to learn Thai the same way, but it way too complicated to learn that quick. Danish is also similar to Swedish but not all Swedes understand it, I do and can read it too but would speak Swedish or Norwegian to Danish people. I never studied German but it is also kind of similar to Swedish and I actually taught German to 6 & 7 graders before I moved to the US. Puh! I think that was all of them. Sorry this was long...

Timeline

Had our interview appointment this morning. They first questioned my wife, then myself. The whole thing was super relaxed and lasted for maybe 10 minutes. At the end the interviewer told me that he will approve our application right away and that I should have my greencard in hand no later than late August. Does anyone know how long it usually takes?
