Would need for a drivers license be a good enough reason for an EAD expedite? I do not have a financial hardship reason that would qualify, I just need to drive!

I have a slight emergency.

I had only one certified copy of my birth certificate, which I sent to USCIS along with the other papers. I had my mom send me two more certified copies from the government on Mexico via Express Mail. The package was supposed to arrive 3 days ago and it basically just dropped off the face of the earth (it's been In Transit from Salt Lake since Wednesday). How IMPORTANT is it I have copies of my birth certificate, if the last one I had I sent to them?

Don't worry - the file the IO will have on his desk contains the original papers you sent in (I-485's, incl. your certified copy of your birth certificate). Tell them what they have is actually your original and maybe swap it for the copy you have !

DMVs don`t issue drivers license without an unexpired USCIS document anymore even though I've showed them receipt notices and all evidence of a legal presence.

Our interview went great! We got approved!

We got there 20 minutes early and waited in the mostly empty waiting room. Funny incident: one of the biometrics technicians needed someone who spoke Spanish to translate for this lady. I volunteered, listened to the lady and then repeated everything in Spanish back to him the security lady was laughing so hard she was almost crying. Anyway, we waited for about 30 minutes, and then we got called in. We got sworn in and he went over the application. He asked us questions about when we met, remarked on my husband's haircut (he used to wear his hair super long and now he wears it short)and asked us if we had any wedding pictures. I had TONS of pictures of everything and had just spent an entire day printing them out and carefully organizing them so I was pretty much like PICTURES I HAVE PICTURES PLEASE LOOK AT ALL MY PICTURES I even showed him pictures that he didn't even need to see, like one taken in the dark in Halloween where you can hardly make out our body shapes. For some reason he chose a picture of us in my husband's prom and photocopied it. He asked us if we had any joint anything, we showed him our rental lease and that was it since we can't do anything without an SSN. I pretty much spoke forever about our apartment, he seemed to be really amused by this. After he was (finally) done looking at our pictures he asked us if we wanted children. We talked a bit more about driving in Boise and then he started telling us about the GC, that it would arrive in 3 weeks and that it was conditional, he told me what to do with the EAD if it arrived after the GC and he took my border crossing card and my I-94. I'd kept my border crossing card's little envelope ever since they gave it to me 10 years ago, he was amused by this and let me keep the envelope. Overall interview lasted like 25 mins, it was actually kind of fun.

About the translation incident, I had to do the same when we applied for our marriage license. There was a Mexican couple who didn't speak English very well and the lady at the office just tried to explain everything in a very loud voice and add an O to every word (like they would understand her better then ) So I stepped in, asked if they needed someone to translate to them in Spanish and they were very thankful. Even the sour lady did eventually thank me for helping out ;)It is ridiculous though, that people at government offices don't speak Spanish in Texas IMO.

At least you were useful! I told the guy the exact same thing the lady told me...in Spanish Only then did my husband correct me and went like, shh....Paula...you're supposed to translate TO ENGLISH....

I know I would have cracked up if I was there waiting with you. I do that a lot though, talk to my hispanic friends and then start speaking Spanish to my husband (who only understands hola, amigo y cerveza ).
