Not that I did a poll or anything on this...

But it seems to me that most people here are resistant to changes in health care system because they don't want to pay for other people's health care.

That's the impression that I get.

You are right, that seems (on VJ, anyway) to be the overriding theme - don't want to pay for anything that might benefit someone else. You can't explain to them that it may benefit you, too (in keeping with their capitalism at all costs theme). I also have the "I don't want anyone to die because they can't afford to go to the doctor" mentality, which I don't expect them to understand here.

One guy (American actually) said that it is all about yourself first and no one else second in the US, and I couldn't have said it better myself. The propaganda from different parties and subjective news channels don't make it easier on people to accept change. For us who have experienced it already, it just doesn't make sense to say no.

In Michael Moore's (I don't agree with everything he says or does) movie about capitalism he asked priests from different religions what they thought Jesus would have said about capitalism and they all had several examples of Jesus being a socialist and would be ashamed of capitalism, yet so many republicans (yes, I like to generalize :)) say that they are christians who want prayer back in schools etc. Interesting....

Ok, will stop my ranting now :)

Congrats to all of you who received EAD updates today!!

Right?! What is with the uber conservatism here?! I don't get it.

And I hear you on not letting money dictate who dies. My uncle compared health insurance to car insurance, and I just couldn't believe that he doesn't see a difference between cards and human beings. Crazy.

The argument about not wanting to contribute other people's benefit is crazy, especially in the context of health insurance. Insurance is all about pooling resources so that you'll have enough but don't have to cover it. That's inherent in the nature of insurance...if you don't want to pay for anyone else's healthcare, you shouldn't have insurance either. Right? Or am I missing something?

Congrats on the EAD Young Love!

UGGGGHH!!!! The connection between the Republican party and Christianity is the most INFURIATING thing in the world to me. How did they convince a bunch of people who profess to love Jesus that the best way to honor that is by taking away anything that could benefit anyone else?? It's all about homosexuality + abortion rights, as though that's all Christianity is about. Ridiculous.

I agree with all of you! I wouldn't mind paying some more taxes so that we could have better healthcare and schools and decent parent leave! I don't understand why people here treat taxes like they're some sort of money-stealing scheme or something.

My interview is tomorrow at 10. I'll let you all know how that went! I'm dying of nerves over here

Hey all! Congrats to everyone who has had updates lately. Things seem to be going pretty well for most people. I have my interview on Monday at 10:50am and I am starting to feel nervous and sort of excited at the same time hoping that everything will go well. It seems sort of surreal too at the same time but hey. Does anyone know if the affidavits are required? And I know there is like a format that someone previously posted but can it just also be a letter as long as it is notarized?

I know they aren't required, but I think a notarized letter format is okay as long as they state the required things (name, address, DOB, etc.). Good luck to you too :)
