i think if the lawyer didn't charge extra, it is better ( cos it was sunk cost and you already paid her/him) because being with lawyer has advantage on it. But i think if you have to pay more, since most of us are without lawyer, i think you should be fine without lawyer

Thanks Valerie! I won't bring them. I will just make sure they give me all the docs (they are 1hr away...aaargh). Now I just need someone to confirm or deny that I have to bring my co-sponsor's permanent residence card (already sent in a copy and will bring that) :)

I had a co-sponsor too but my IO never ask ANYTHING about it , what I can see is that the IO study you file before the interview(my knew that I was going to work in the airport already and when I ask her how did she know about that she said we are the homeland security we know everything you do ....that's scary lol), if you already send I don't think they will ask twice for the same thing.

Everything is good hoopla if you didn't get any RFE for the sponsor they have everything they want .

also a lawyer for initial interview is a waste of money .

Good luck !!!

I'm taking my parents' birth certificates as proof of citizenship. I think it's best to have the originals. ETA: Even if they don't ask for it. I'd just rather have everything there rather than having to go back.

I just don't feel comfortable taking my friend's pr card (she is supposed to keep it with her at all times, right?). I think they should be able to understand that. We're going to the lawyer's office tomorrow for interview preparation so I will ask them as well to make sure.

Need to check earlier posts to see how everyone divided their docs into seperate files etc. I might go to Walmart today to buy folders.

I was wondering if you were asking because you weren't comfortable asking. I can understand that---seems like if you have a copy, that should be fine. Hopefully the worse they would do is ask you to bring it back or something? I'm guessing that they wouldn't even do that. I'm taking the birth certificates because well...it's my parents, and it's easy to ask them. :) Good luck preparing!

Well I can understand why homeland security know about it because after 9/11 everybody that work on airports goes to FBI ,homeland security ,CIA (and the list go on and on )check but, why my IO want to see what I was doing that's what amaze me .

Anyway the way I did my folders I did one for original docs ,one for evidence original ,one for docs and evidence copies and one for copies of the forms sent to USCIS plus the photo album .

Yes, if it was either of my parents I would ask. I just feel like she has done so much already so if I don't need to bring it, I prefer not to. I don't mind asking her really, but not sure if she feels comfortable parting with it, if even just for a day. We didn't get a RFE for anything that we sent in regarding our co-sponsor so I hope they won't ask much about her. i would think that they will focus on our relationship and maybe on my overstay.

Yeah, I guess when you are working at an airport they will have to double-check.

You don't have to bring copies of anything that they sent out right? Like NOAs, Bio letter etc. I'm starting to over-think everything, but I really want to be approved at the interview and not have to come back or send additional stuff in

First of all, I got Approved at the interview, SO HAPPY!:dance::dance:

Here is our interview at the Garden City in NY.

We went there about 30 minutes before the interview time. On the notice it said second floor, but it was actually to go the first floor at one of the windows there to leave the letter of appointment. The lady there asked if I need someone to translate, I said NO. She asked if I had a lawyer, and that was a NO as well. She said to take a seat at area C and wait to be called. There was already a line of people waiting to go upstairs. After about 20 minutes or so, we were called and lined up to go upstairs. Then upstairs we waited another 45 minutes, until we were called in from the IO white nice lady. We had our kid with us.

After we did swear, she told us to sit.

IO: Did you become a USC? (asked my husband)

Husb: Not yet, waiting for interview letter.

Io: I can't approve your case today. Since you (husband) are not a UCS.

I: (got scared for a second there) May I ask why? I am on a student visa, and I have been in status during this whole time.

IO: She asked me to see what I had to prove that I was here legally?

I gave her My passport, with Student Visa and I-20s. I told her I had completed my degree right after I applied for AOS.

She asked my husband questions:

What's your wife's full name and date of birth?

What visa did she come here with?

What is her address?

What did she study? Last degree?

What were my parent's first names? Where do they live?

Asked for child's Bith certificate.

Asked the Yes/no questions to me.

My question:

When did my husband come here?

When and How did I meet him?

Did we know each other before me comming here? (NO)

She asked what I had to give her showing joint finance and living together, such as pics.

I gave her my album with pics from different occasion. She was looking at them while I pulled out the oother financial info I have. Bank statement, credit cards, marriage certificate, car tittle, insurance (medical and car) taxes for 3 years filed together(transcripts). She saw them all and was satisfied, she took 5 pictures from album.

Congrats!! What made her change her mind? Just seeing your student docs?

I am not sure if she was testing us or she just did not look at our file. She probably thought that I was out of status (not on student visa anymore). After I gave her my last I-20 and I-94, she looked something up on the computer and looked at my file. She then took out my I-94 from my passport) and attached it to my file she had on the table. Then Asked all the other questions.

She might have thought it was the usual case that people come on student visa and don't go to school. Then, they wait to adjust once the Husband is a USC. Since I have always been on Student visa (never been out of status) I had the right to do AOS. She just didn't look closely at my file, I already had sent that info in my original file LOL :bonk:

I am not sure if she was testing us or she just did not look at our file. She probably thought that I was out of status (not on student visa anymore). After I gave her my last I-20 and I-94, she looked something up on the computer and looked at my file. She then took out my I-94 from my passport) and attached it to my file she had on the table. Then Asked all the other questions.

She might have thought it was the usual case that people coem on student visa and don't go to school anymore. Then they wait to adjust once the Husband is a USC. Since I have always been on Student visa (never been out of status) I had the right to do AOS. She just didn't look closely to my file, I already had sent that info in my original file LOL :bonk:

I forgot to add that our interview was very quick about 15 minutes or so. At the end, The IO said that she is going to stamp my passport so I can be free to go where I want and so I can work now. She told me to wait out in the waiting room and she was going to bring my passport in a few minutes. I hope this helps.
