Received my green card last Wednesday...really fast!!! The useless EAD arrived a day later. Do I need to send it back or should I just let it expire?

5/20/10 - I-130/I-485/I-765 sent USPS Express mail
5/21/10 - Received at Chicago Lockbox

5/28/10 - Received hardcopy NOAs of all three petitions/applications

I don't know about the EAD either. I was told to send it back, but I don't want to!

Is it an offence to go to another SS office after getting a Reference Number from one office.

I've been to the social security office 3ce now and still i cant get a card. i went when i just came in before my I94 expired, it was not approved. The officer said she could not find my info with USCIS. I went after my I94 expired but EAD approved the officer asked me to come back when i receive EAD or GC. I was there again on Monday (2nd August) with my EAD he said he couldnt locate my info with USCIS that my I94 has expired. He however said i should give him till Friday that he would sort it out. He gave me his number to call him. I called today and after 35mins of waiting on the phone he said i'll have to wait for about 3 weeks when he would have been able to confirm from USCIS or i wait till i receive GC. My GC has not even been approved and nobody knows when it 'll be approved. I feel so terrible. It means the EAD is not useful then. Its been a sad day for me. I thot the EAD 'll make life easier.

They have to verify your identity/papers with USCIS and it can take UP TO 3 weeks (but I really guess that it's not going to take that long). You need to be patient. I bet in 2 weeks the SSN will come in the mail. The US gov ALWAYS estimates longer than it actually takes. Patience... that guy is working on it. You can't go to another office because a number is already being generated for you and you GET ONLY ONE FOR LIFE. You'll get it soon.

I've seen a lot of people on VJ go to the SSA few weeks after they arrive and they get a SS Card that does not allow them to work and when they receive their EAD or GC they go and get a replacement. that was my reason of going there twice. I'll have to wait then. It's been boring sitting at home so i thot the receipt of the EAD would put an end to the waiting game. Anyways, i appreciate your response.
