I got my welcome letter too! Well, to my parents'. I thought we had changed addresses but USCIS is oblivious. How long until we get the card?

Yaaay! Congrats!!

Felipe said GC will come in 5-10 business days :)

Oh hey guys all of you on F-1 student status.. this is slightly :ot:

Do I need to let my school know that I'm no longer an international student now?

Is there anything that needs to be done with SEVIS?

Hmm... I used to be on F-1, then H3. If you're still a student, you don't have to pay international tuition anymore :dancing: I don't know about SEVIS, maybe if you're still a student. I didn't have to tell them anything since I had already graduated when I changed to H3. I would let your international advisor know for sure, she/he should know if you need to do anything else.

Congrats!! I just got mine in the mail too!

NOW it feels official, heheh..

Yeah it's probably better you didn't get the EAD. Mine is approved and I'll probably get it in the mail in a week or so, but I was told to send it right back. At least you don't have to spend the extra postage $$

Yaaay! Congratulations!

Why do you have to send the EAD back though??

Haha! I didn't have to pay tuition for grad school, but yeah otherwise that would be great :D

I'm sort of still in school. Done will all my classes, but still finishing up my research and writing my thesis :bonk::bonk::bonk:

Short of picking up my I-20, I don't ever talk to the international advisor. Not even sure I remember what she looks like

But I guess now I have to go find her..

Thanks!! :)

The IO told me that when I finally get the EAD I have to send it back

I guess because I don't need it anymore ?

He doesn't want me to sell it a the black market?

Who knows.. but I'm gonna do what he told me to.

Cute picture btw ;)

I called my school's international students office to inform them I changed my status. It went like this:

Me: I'm just calling to tell you I changed my status from international student to pending PR, because I got married. I was just wondering if there's anything I need to do?

Her: (in annoyed tone) If you want to immigrate, you need to get a lawyer.

Me: NO, I'm saying I already applied for it. I am just INFORMING YOU, because I'm wondering if there's anything I need to do to let (school) know.

Her: No, just change your address on our website if you move.

Me: Ok, bye.

Anyway it was a pretty pointless phone call. I'm already done with my coursework, so I don't need the tuition reduction. I was annoyed that she, the "immigration counselor" at a university with #2 international student enrollment in the USA, was completely clueless and giving students erroneous advice like "you need a lawyer". Most people probably don't! I hope no poor student takes her advice.

Yes, no tuition.. in return I have been an indentured servant for the last 2 yrs.

I taught lab sessions and graded lab reports, and did research.. 40+ hours/week but at the rate of pay of 18 hours a week.

Still doing research now, for free.

OMG!! I guess my Intl. advisor was pretty good compared to yours. Even though she did ask me if I would consider getting married when I was worried about finding a job after graduation :o I told her NO! To clarify that was over 2-3 years ago so that I actually got married this year had nothing to do with that ;)

yup thats what I was. Technically still an RA now. I just don't get paid anymore..

The tuition is waived because I am required to publish a certain amount of conference proceedings and represent the uni at different conferences in addition to publishing the thesis.

More headache than it's worth really.. because I see no jobs out there asking for a master's :crying:

In grad school I worked 20 hours per week as a Graduate Assistant too. I paid about $700 tuition a semester, and my stipend was about $1800 a month which was enough to cover living expenses in Small Town, Indiana. It was a great deal, because I pretty much got a great education for FREE! :)

I am very thankful for the opportunities I've been given in the USA.

:ot: I regretted not bringing my profile pic photo (one of our engagement pics) with me to the interview! When we stepped into the IO's office, hubby and me noticed right away that he had a Vikings figure sitting on top of his shelf. I thought it would work in our favor to show him we were fans too...

Wow! My tuition was A LOT higher! Each credit hour was about $515, that is credit hour, not class! I got my Bachelors for free in Sweden, with a non-refundable grant every month (everyone gets this). Yeah, I know...why did I get my MBA over here? Long story.
