Pickens is right, we should be drilling for gas instead of oil.

Whether you are mining it, transporting it, selling it or using it, oil is a bloody dirty business.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

My point is, they've had a plan since 1994 in case a spill like this happened and they weren't ready and failed to act.

This actually IS the government's job to be able to react to something like this off of our coastline.

They had the plan, yet weren't ready... and took a week to do anything, after it was too late.

You mean do something like the similar disaster was averted when ironically another well Haliburton was working on blewout in AUS. Yes they did have measures in place. That's what governments do when you don't hate them 24/7 and actually empower them to do their job. As in protect the country and we the people.

Someone clearly screwed up or something failed. If something did fail, then why in the hell was there no backup or safety measure? I'm not even in that industry and could think of a number of backup measures off the top of my head. Like having a second drill point drilled but closed; just in case something like this scenario happened.

There is no excuse as they are sucking oil out of the ground, not building the next generation stealth fighter.

I doubt that there are any backup measures that would be foolproof for deep water drilling. I'm sure that greed for profits are probably more important than safety, especially environmental safety. If this thing blows completely and empties the reserve into the Gulf... I shudder to think what would happen. The oil doesn't disappear, it ends up somewhere. How much abuse can the oceans take? Of course to some this is just a myth that's being blown out of proportion.

The oil doesn't disappear, it ends up somewhere.

A Democratic Congressman from Mississippi had this to say:

He described the spill as a light, rainbow sheen with patches that look like chocolate milk.

...

“It’s breaking up naturally; that’s a good thing. The fact that it’s a long way from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, that’s a great thing, because it gives it time to break up naturally,” he said.

Walker said the sheen could collect on beaches and in estuaries, but it will evaporate within a week.

Walker’s plan is to let any sheen that makes its way into the marshes evaporate naturally.

“That’s what we will probably do, is leave it alone and let nature take its course,” he said.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Well this is good news. The spill isn't that bad and will go away in no time without harming anything. And to think that I was concerned. I can't wait to eat some Gulf shrimp.

He's a bullshit artist that is what he is. Making it out as if coco butter has been spilled off into the water.

Perhaps he can go to Alaska and ask them how quickly it dissipated. Oh that is right, they are still cleaning it bloody up.
