Diversity visa is 50,000 Visas. I am talking immigration in general - both legal and illegal. The reality is that over 80% of immigrants over the last 10 years have been from Latin America. A region that only makes up 9% of the world's population.

I know the DV is small. The point I was attempting to make is that when visas are open to most countries but a small handful of countries appear to predominate in the list of recipients, that may be more of an indicator of individual behavior (i.e. more of them want to come, more of them apply) than anything else.

Your percentage referred specifically to Hispanics, and not to illegals. Strawman? Hardly.

Did you fail math in school or something? As such, cannot tell the difference between 88% to 12%. Perhaps this is not taught in Jersey but the United States was not founded by the Spanish nor Latin Americans.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

That is a great idea when an economy is booming and unemployment is below 4.5%. The use of a guest work program when millions of Americans are out of work and nearly 1 in 5 is living in poverty is ridiculous. Almost grounds for treason charges for anyone who would profit while the country is hurting.

Great idea as in opening up the VISA to all rather than just Mexicans.

Is it also treasonous for US-based companies to move operations overseas and outsource projects to workers in other countries?

sigh

Once upon a time, you insisted your beef was with illegals and not Hispanics.

Now, you're being quite open in admitting you have a problem with the entire 12%.

We all know where the majority of illegal aliens are from, so that is a done deal. The question is, what sort of legal visa are all of these Latin Americans entering on.

Where to begin, so many things wrong with this. It has a "why cant we hug and all be friends" overtone.

I just wanted to make a personal post, after reading all these articles and all this anti-illegal immigration banter back and forth. I had some personal questions for the people who support the AZ immigration bill who claim they're not "racists" and that racism against latinos wasn't a motivator in the bill.

I am one of them, fire away

First and foremost, I will not deny that illegal immigration is a problem. It is a HUGE one. This bill however is also a HUGE problem and in my opinion it fixes nothing.

Huge problem yes! Fixes nothing? How so? It could, if implemented correctly could cut down on illegal aliens.

A lot of people seem to dehumanize illegal immigrants, and it's disheartening really. A few posts that I've read have actually gone to the point of actually scaring me. I think what it comes down to is - we are all human. We are all sons/daughters of God (or whatever higher being you believe in). How, I ask, can people be so heartless as to say something like "shoot them if they try to cross the border," etc. These are HUMAN BEINGS. Mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, grandchildren... just like you and I. Does it matter that their skin is a little darker than yours? Really? Does that make a difference? Does that make you more human than them? The answer is NO.

Not all human beings are worth the air they breath. Many cross the boarder with drugs and these drugs end up in our kids hand. Dont be fooled into thinking everybody that crosses the boarder just wants a cup of living.

Does committing a crime give someone the right to kill you? Have you driven with a suspended license before? Blown a red light? Drank while underage? Were you shot on sight?

Read the bill, this is a ridiculous accusation.

And another thing. How can we justify stereotyping and legalizing prejudice against latino-looking US citizens/legal aliens? This is a very personal topic for me. I don't understand how just because of someone's skin tone or ethnic background, they can be suspected of illegal immigration. Do you all see that picture in my signature? Those are my children, they are Americans. Born in this country, speak English, we are hard working parents, pay taxes... heck, I even work for the fed. gov't. So is the fact that their skin is darker than yours, or that we are bilingual and speak Spanish at home, or that their last name is Latino, or that we eat arroz con pollo for dinner, is that going to make them less of a human being to you? Are you somehow better than us?

The bill doesnt sterotype. I know your one of those people that believe the cops cant help themselves but seriously the bill doesnt stereotype.

I just wanted to say that. I feel it needed to be said. The coffee needs to be made so everyone can WAKE UP and smell it.

I would suggest next time you wake up and smell the coffee yourself before posting. Most of the people that oppose this bill dont go to the extremes that you pointed out in your response.

I will spoon feed you the Excel spreadsheets necessary for you to do your own research:

Nonimmigrant Admissions (I-94 Only) by Region and Country of Citizenship: Fiscal Years 2000 to 2009 (XLS, 52 KB)

Persons Obtaining Legal Permanent Resident Status by Region and Country of Birth: Fiscal Years 2000 to 2009 (XLS, 47 KB)

As pointed out in another thread closed earlier for TOS violations, statements of 'statistics' and numbers not supported by any evidence or sourced material so the integrity of the source can be examined are matters of opinion only and not fact. Some of these 'opinions' are coming across as very racist. Combining legal and illegal immigrants from one locality together and painting them all with the same anti-immigrant brush is definitely racist, offensive and a violation of TOS for Visa Journey.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Sigh indeed. You are confusing separate points.

1. Illegal aliens are an issue and has nothing to do with nationality.

2. You guys assume Hispanics will be victimised by the new law, which I implied why should the 88% continue to suffer just so the 12% that are Hispanic are not inconvenienced.

3. Why should 80% of the United States immigration be hogged and dominated by one region?

Out of interest, no, no, and no. I know how to read and obey the law.

I honestly don't understand where you pulled this "kill" sentiment from. We all know most people are blowing smoke when they actually say "we should shoot them all on site" BUT you have to be honest, if we did, it sure would cut down on illegal immigration!

I have no issue with immigration. Some immigrants I have issues with. Personally I believe if you enter a country where the main language is English (official or not, we know it is) then there should be a BASIC english requirement. Australia HAS nominated English as their official language so there IS an English language requirement if you want to become a citizen (don't know about LPR but I would assume so). I don't care about your traditions, you want to pray 17 million times a day, have at it, BUT don't expect to be paid the same as someone who WORKS more hours than you. This isn't "racism", or "religionism" (not a word I know) and not discrimination, I'm letting you pray, I'm just not paying you to do it!

If you want to speak your language at home, or out and about with friends, also, don't care. BUT don't give me that look of exasperation when I don't speak Spanish. When I travelled to France i spoke French, when i went to Italy I spoke Italian. Sure there are other languages there but those are the MAIN language that EVERYONE speaks.. except some damn stubborn immigrants!

So there you go. Call me racist or whatever, but if you want to be Aussie, be Aussie. If you want to be American, be American.
