The thing about this chart is that it does not paint the true picture. Have a look at Canada or Australia and you will notice an equitable number of people from various regions of the world immigrating; with those from large populations have a large number.

Whereas, what is happening in the United States is that 80% of immigrants now come from one region that makes up only 9% of the world's population - Latin America.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

that could be because most realize he is full of sh!t & pandering to the latino population of his town. you do understand that he is an elected official don't you?

Well... isn't the State Governor similarly elected?

Why distrust someone solely on the basis that they are elected?

yes, but she is elected by the entire state. the sheriff is elected by a smaller predominantly latino community.

so why do you distrust the governor & other elected officials of Arizona? as you obviously think they are racist w/ an agenda.

when it gets to NY, it is your business.

I disagree. I care what goes on in my country - in or out of NY state, just like others have strong opinions on this bill, so do I. Why don't you address the entire thread? Maybe one person in here is from AZ, if any.

I shouldn't care about the oil spill either, it didn't happen in NY.

and who's to say our interest in the lives of fellow Americans has to stop at the borders of our state?

he spoke out about racism in columbia, she opted out by saying she lives in NY so not worried about columbia or peru basically, just like you are saying same country, he could have said same world and that she should have interest in mankind.

Not that I'm not worried about it, but I'm not a citizen or resident of Peru. My husband and I live in NY, and he watches the Peru news every morning because his family lives there and that's his country and he's concerned about what's going on there. I watch the news too, but it's a totally different point of view for me. I don't live there, never have... it's not my country. Yes, when I visit I get overcharged for things simply because I'm white. But that's a topic for a whole nother discussion (like I told that poster). I love Peru but I don't get involved with their politics because our politics here in the US are complicated enough for me

You're basically saying that a person in one part of a country shouldn't care about what's going on in another part of the country, which I don't agree with.

A lot of people here figure that Brewer is just trying to make a name for herself before the midterm elections, and I tend to agree. The AZ economy is in tatters, many thanks to the real estate bubble for a big part of that, and she has a lot on her plate. There's a special election coming up for a temporary sales tax increase to keep schools from being forced to lay off teachers and, ironically, to keep police departments from being forced to make cuts. (You can bet that many of the same people who will vote No on this proposition are in support of the bill...nevermind the need for law enforcement resources to enforce it, whatever form that will take.)

My guess is that Brewer didn't foresee the backlash against this law, but figured she'd come across as a strong-willed leader shaking Washington out of its refusal to deal with this issue in a real way. And, of course, she's seeking election (not reelection, mind you). She was a no-name before all this, and suddenly she's international news. I know very few people who are in favor of this bill and what it represents. I know a few very conservative AZ Republicans who think it's horseshit.

It's never dawned on me until now but how the hell does a Brit live in AZ? Do you slap on sunscreen 24/7? 100 in AZ would feel like 140 in Brit terms.

I AGREE something does need to be done about illegal immigration. We even have a problem with it up here in NY (though nothing compared to what they have to deal with in Arizona). Racial profiling is undoubtedly going to happen... hey, it even happens here... but the point is, it's unacceptable. When it's already a problem, why create a law that will ultimately facilitate it?

if 75% of the problem is mexican and central american, does it make sense to look at mexican and central americans more closely? use some logic here. it's the illegal mexican and central americans that have created the majority of the problem. when do we begin to hold them accountable for their actions?
