All this hue and cry about discrimination is hogwash. Are you discriminated against when they card you for beer? How about when you're asked for an ID before you can open a bank account? Do you refuse to carry your driver's license because that infringes on your civil rights? It maybe, at the most, an inconvenience to carry your ID around but it's certainly not tantamount to discrimination.

No it's not discrimination at all. But applying for a bank account and buying beer is not equivalent to being stopped at a police roadblock, looking "reasonably suspicious (aka Mexican)" and then getting asked for proof of citizenship because you're brown.

If that's the case, we should all have to produce proof of citizenship everytime we're stopped by a cop. Everyone, or no one at all.

once again, just like none of the federal regulators stopped wall street during the housing boom, just like they didn't see bernie right under their noses and stanford (the guy in TX) again right under their nose, they are asleep, completely out to lunch, on illegal immigrants after they arrive and with securing borders too.

IMO, AZ simply wants to wake Washington up!!!

good or bad, when the proper authority does not act, other authorities will act (legit authorities and not).

if you are mad, yell at washington with letters and phone calls and emails.

washington was bitching at Bush for not securing the ports... what has washington under the dems done about the ports? nothing, they are completely silent these days.

washington's focus on airport security while leaving our southern border wide open is shameful and lacks common sense.

bottom line, this is all about votes. washington looks after their own careers first, then the america people's concerns second.

don't scream at AZ but instead scream at washington if you don't like the AZ law.

our federal gov't is failing in so many ways all for the sake of saving careers.

the pols in washington are vote whores... they've do anything or not do anything (whichever gets the most votes) just for the votes.

Life..... Nobody gets out alive.

I'd be fine with that.

I'm with you on that. Stop EVERYONE if need be. I don't care if you're blue, black, white, or brown.

No, not 'just like'.

Sales tax on purchases - sure. I'll give you THAT one.

Property taxes? Nope, but if they are renting - is high propensity for the property owner to pay the yearly tax on the property - but DOES NOT REPORT ALL INCOME from the rental, as rents are USUALLY paid in cash.

Income Taxes? Nope - and if you claim they do - yer sadly misinformed - an illegal alien working with a SSN in hand, doesn't have LEGAL authorization to USE that SSN, it was stolen from someone else.

So - 'just like you and me' - sorry - disagree, mostly.

So that includes everyone renting and not just undocumented workers. Are you now suggesting that all renters get you upset because they aren't paying enough taxes?

FWIW - turn on C-Span now, is Immigrant & Workers Right's ally rebroadcast - Sonia Ivany is talking -

Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston), congresswoman, is right behind her.

Oh My. I smell policital fall out on Ms. Lee, on this one -

but - check it out, now, if you can - Ms. Ivany is spewing a lot about racial profiling in Arizona.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

You seem to be glazing over the fact that you are not legally required to carry ID on you, only identify yourself if requested by law enforcement. No, it's not a huge inconvenience to carry your ID around, but look at what can happen if you forget it at home and walk to the store. According to this law, if the officer has a lawful belief that he thinks you are an illegal alien, he is compelled to inquire about your status. You've just landed yourself in the back of a patrol unit awaiting transport to the police station to verify your status. And for what? Because you didn't have ID, which you aren't required to carry anyways? What are the characteristics of an illegal alien that distinguish them from a mexican american citizen? It's not the rights of illegal immigrants that I support, it is the legal rights of mexican CITIZENS.

I don't pretend to know how to stop illegal immigration.

But one of the BIG things I think the federal government needs to do is come down HARD on employers. These employers need to be scared to hire illegal immigrants, so that there aren't any jobs for them. If there aren't any jobs, they won't come.

The border needs to be secured better. We have the technology to go into outer space, but we can't find a humane way to secure a border? :bonk:

DING DING DING DING!!!! You see no differnce between illegal and legal aliens. So why did you go through it legally? Put your convitions where your big mouth is and burn your SO's green card. You sir are the real problem in immigration reform. The only reform you want is to just open the gates and let everyone in.

Do you think that if these undocumented workers had a reasonable way to work here legally, they would?
