I read the posts in that thread so many times over and over. Unless you're the victim, you will probably don't know what racism is like. It could be psychological. I didn't even know I could be offended until I read the comments.

This is precisely what I have been trying to get at. Thank you for voicing that so succinctly.

Well said.

That is why the racism that is so prevalent among some of our posters is so extremely harmful to this site.

It's not a new problem though. Racism and hatred is what led to the formation of the sub-forums. Admin chose to provide "safe places" for cultural and ethnic congragating rather than dealing with attacks against those groups.

How did you come to that conclusion?

About the creation of sub forums, not the 'it's not new' part.

Rampant anti-Muslim bias was the impetus for MENA. Once you create MENA, you can't very well not create the others.

You know, I genuinely had no idea that was the reason.

Some of the regional forums are downright vicious to outsiders from other countries... not saying racism..just that I understand why they would be created given the fact that if they were all lumped into one forum it had to have been ugly at times....

some may feel that reporting racism is snitching, its just a way to keep everyone on the same moral compass... obviously some have magnetic issues causing thier compass to go awry... blindly spouting numbers as statistics needs to be noted as a TOS violation since it is misquoting the words of another... simple enough to require someone to cite the source.. no matter how illigitimate the source.. that way its not hearsay 3 party BS he said she said...

just going somewhere doesnt make someone an expert on the people or the culture... even though some have it in their mind that they are the know all tell all source or everything.blink.gif

At times it was ugly. But for the most part, it was a far more interesting place to be. It was easier to learn about other cultures when they weren't each hidden away in their own little corner.

The problem (IMO)is an ####### is an #######, whether they are in OT, or a Regional Forum, or in the so-called Upper Forums. Bad behavior simply should be quashed. There should be zero tolerance for racist, xenophobic, or any other "us versus them" behaviors.

I've noticed (unscientifically) that Philippines members who post in the general fora seem to lapse into Tagalog a lot sooner than other countries' members do in the general fora, perhaps man.

Back on topic: Are some comments "racist," or merely "insular"? Where might one draw the line between racism & insularity, huh man? Can one be politically insular without necessarily or automatically being racist, si man?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Only if you believe the narrow-mindedness resulting from an insular opinion isn't offensive.

Which I don't.

I think what gets forgotten, at least in OT is that while it is true, this is an immigration forum to help one legally navigate entry into the US, which is what everyone supports - this is not a forum simply for Americans or English native speakers - America is multicultural with many faceted influences and with that in mind, it is very important for everyone to feel that they have equal access to this information without feeling that there is an underlying climate of prejudice against a particular demographic or ethnicity.
