Renewing Passport

I'm not sure where to put this post, so I'll put it here.

I have a passport valid until Jan 30/2011. It's a Canadian Passport. My interview is June 10/2010 and wedding July 31/2010. However, the passport needs to be valid 6 months after entry to the USA or whatever the standard is.

Can I renew it even though all the paperwork has the current passport # on it...

My interview and everything is all scheduled. Will it matter if I have a different passport # cause I renewed mine?!

Or do they give you the same passport number?

Thanks so much!

P.S. I haven't renewed it yet! I wanted to see if that's ok first

I don't know how K-1 visa stuff works. Or any different. But in the end, I believe that an interview for AOS is required. But once again, I'm sure a lot of members here would be able to answer that, if that's any different.

Anyway, what I was going to say is that I went to my initial interview last Thursday (April 29), and I brought my old and new passports.

For the record, mine was about to expire in June. I sent in the application along with my old passport in early March.

When the IO asked for ID in the beginning of the interview, I presented both of them. He didn't say a word at the time, so I assume that he figured it out.

For renewing your old passport, feel free to check out my recent reply to J&K's topic, regarding how fast Passport Canada processes it or how much time you should give it.

Cheers.

Yes! I am approved!!! :)

It took only two (2) months to be approved. Hooray!

Not sure where you are (US or Canada) and, in case of the latter, at which time you plan on coming to the US. However, for AOS purposes the passport can be expired for eternity. The reason they want to see the passport is to establish at which time you entered the US, when you left, and so on. That's all. Yes, you can get a new passport, and nobody gives a hoot about its number, but they still want to see your old one.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I'm still in Canada. Haven't gotten my K-1 visa. My interview however is June 10th....will I have time to renew my Canadian passport and get my papers back before the interview date?!

If not...what should I do about my interview!?

I guess you haven't read J&K's topic that I was referring to earlier. It has your answer, julesrose.

Also, while I was up there, I renewed my passport. My plan was to go to the Scarborough office to get it done in 24hrs. Thankfully, I did a search in Toronto and found the passport office on Victoria St, just a few blocks from the hospital.

Went it, and was seen in less than 15 minutes. They did the Express pickup, and was ready in 2 days. They were great! Much better experience than the last time I went to Scarborough. If you can get to Toronto and do your passport there, I would definitely recommend that over Scarborough.

2 days! Since you're in Sudbury, you can make a day trip to T.O., can't you? I would. It'll save time and all the hassle.

Cheers.
