When coming for the first appointment for the I-130, is the Affidavit of Support(I-862) required? If so and I do not have it, should I re-schedule the appointment or will they just tell me to bring it in at a later time?

I did not see this as a requirement on the local embassy website or anything else besides the I-130 and G-325a form. It was just me looking around here where I found something about the I-862. Is there a complete list somewhere of absolutely everything needed, like medical checks, police records, etc..

Thanks!!

oh my. this is really confusing.

first - you prolly mean the I-864, yes?

second - where are you sending the submittal packet for the I-130 ? If to the lockbox address in Chicago, then no, the I-864 is not required. If you are filing the I-130 via DCF in Ukraine, there is different process for the I-864 submittal, and you really should study the DCF info for that Embassy.

third - if you've not filed the I-130 yet, please obtain a form and instructions, and READ IT. There is nothing about police checks, medical exam, I-864 IN THE INSTRUCTIONS.

fourth - I think is premature, if you've not filed the I-130 yet, but you should review NVC stuff -

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

as you'll be handling NVC Processing AFTER the I-130 petition is approved (If not file via DCF)

fifth - if you've not filed the I-130 yet, now is a good time to generate the evidence needed (per the I-130 instructions) for bonafide marriage evidence - here's what I did - for that original submittal on the I-130 - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218775&st=0&p=3324240&hl=Rusticentry3324240

I wouldn't study the 'local embassy website' unless you are filing via DCF. You should be studying the USCIS web site, instead, if yer NOT filing via DCF.

Can you give us some idea of 'where you are, in this process' ?

OK - I reviewed yer prior posts. You are doing a DCF'd I-130 to Ukraine. Got it. My apologies for my confusion.

Ya, all goes into the Embassy - but 'when' is important.

Have a read? http://www.visajourney.com/content/dcf but that is still general info.

Unless there is 'other' procedure, you only need I-130 and the G-325A on initial submittal, then

will be 2nd submittal for I-864 and DS-230.

I could be wrong, though - I hope someone with any experience in filing I-130 via DCF in Ukraine will chime in ?

*** moving to Direct Consular Filing (DCF) General Discussion, as casefile is via DCF***

Thanks for your replies:)

Yes there really isn't anything in the I-130 instructions about anything other then a few pictures , the G-325a form and a few other documents.

Anyway, We did go with what we had at the time, but when we arrived, we were told I was not able to file from Ukraine because I was not registered in Ukraine in my US passport(I was not able to register as an alian resident in Ukraine because, in Ukraine, they said since I was born in Ukraine, I was a Ukrainian citizen as well and cannot be registered as an alien resident.) Although, when signing up for the appointment, I was told I just had to prove that I had lived in ukraine for the past 6 months. Since i have lived here, consecutively, 3 years, I did not think it would be a problem since I do not have any new stamps in the US passport that i left anywhere.

They said the best option is to go back to the US and file from there or file for a 5 year visitor visa for my wife. Going back to the US and filing the I-130 would take a very long time and I do not want to leave my wife and kids behind while I do that. So I was thinking of filing for the visitors visa. The only questions about that are, how long does it take to acquire, can I file it from Ukraine, can my wife change her status in the US and be able to work and become a permanent resident while on a visitors visa?

Another option is to file the I-130 to the lockbox in Chicago.

Is the Affidavit of Support still needed when filing for a visitors visa and then changing status there?

visitors visa? never heard of that, sorry (affadavit of support for visitors visa)

but for 'changing status' via filing AOS packet - absolutely required from USC Spouse.
