Hey guys,

We're preparing for our June 1st interview and essentially our move.

We have a 9kg., 3 year old female dog. We've gotten her kennel, have had her slept in it for a few weeks.

I don't want to sedate her, but apart from that does anyone have any info or advice??

Thanks!!!

Topic moved from Off Topic to Moving Here and Your New Life in America.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Personally I would speak with the Vet first and mention how long the flight is going to be.

Are you aware of the quarantine regulations? and the shots that need to be up to date at the time of travel?

I have a dog back home. She's 3.6kgs and I decided that a 24 hour flight would be extremely unfair on her, not the mention the 30 days in quarantine but I believe that's a personal choice and my mum also didn't want her to go so she's now the family dog and is very happy with her new doggie friend.

I found this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080824144504AAhQs1m which mentions a "pet passport" which I've never heard of and could be country specific and also this: http://www.foreignborn.com/visas_imm/entering_us/2bringyourpet.htm hope those help.

Where are you flying into and have you spoken to the airline yet? During the summer months there are certain airports around the US that do not allow you to fly live animals into because of extreme heat concern.

I am not aware of quarantine requirements, only vaccination (for rabies).

Here is the CDC info page: http://www.cdc.gov/animalimportation/dogs.html

Thanks guys!

Yes, luckily when you travel between the Americas there's no quarantine or anything. I guess they rank countries with a "rabies number" (way to measure cases, risks, etc.) and in North and South America we have the same number.

I've heard it's 6 months for entering England!! I wouldn't put my dog through that either.

I'll look at the doggy passport site.

We already have a reservation for her, and have checked the weather. I guess I'm looking more for some advice about herbal relaxers or something......

Hi! Were moving from the UK to NJ on the 31st of this month with my 5 year old labrador. We started the process by investigating Pet Shipping companies and finding a reputable vet that often deals with animal transportation. We went with PBS in the UK and that have been fantastic at answering all of my questions. Obviously the requirements will be different for each country that you're flying from but animals from the UK are not allowed to be seated at all and thanks to Continental's temperature controlled journeys, pets can travel all year long. Theres no embargo or anything.

I'd find a vet (the passport required us to find an LVI) and take it from there, but I highly recommend a shipping company too. They will make sure you have all of the requirements in place. Good luck!

i finally got my dog booked with the cargo department of aer lingus today. She is a king charles/collie cross and we're flying on the 17th of this month. There are criteria to be met for both the air-line and the state we're moving to. The airline require a valid EU pet passport, proof of vaccinations and a certificate of good health. As ireland is considered rabies free, there is no quarantine, but the dog does need to be vaccinated against rabies. We've been told by the US Dept of Agriculture that the entry requirements vary from state to state, so the best course of action is to contact the state vet that applies to you. The full list of state vets is available here http://www.usaha.org/StateAnimalHealthOfficials.pdf

Of course the dog needs to be in a healthy condition when expected at the port of entry or there is a chance that admission will be refused.
