Hello everyone,

I just got approved for a green card last week.

My husband and I would like to take our time to move to the US, in maybe 3 months...time to quit our job, find someone for our apt, look for a job in the US...

But they say that some employers might not hire me if I do not have a SSN.

Then my question is:

Can I cross the US border with my passport and my package to make start the process to issue my SSN and the same day come back to Canada?

And I would get my SSN before we move to the US and have more chance to get a job from Canada.

And when we move I will have a job in the US.

What do you think please?

thank you

P.

Yes you should be able to turn right around if you have the card or at least the GC stamp in your passport.

I would think so personally as some jobs want to check "your history" but then I wouldn't think that's until you're there and approved.. up to you really

No, you don't want to do this. It clearly states on the I-864, in relation to the sponsor (your Husband):

C. You intend in good faith to reestablish your domicile in the United States no later than the date of the intending immigrant's admission or adjustment of status.

Therefore, unless he is reestablishing domicile on the day you cross the border - you should not try to use your visa.
