You do not submit your passport to VFS. You will need it for the interview and will not be granted admission otherwise. VFS wants a photocopy of every page of your passport and will put a little sticker at the back of your passport after you've paid the DHL fees.

USCIS Online Change of Address

Introduction

Online Change of Address is a web-based tool that allows you to change your address online so that USCIS can contact you regarding your status. Customers who have filed an application or petition with USCIS but have not yet received a decision (a "pending" case) should notify USCIS of any change of address as soon as possible after moving.

In addition to changing your address for a pending application the law requires that all non-U.S. citizens, except for holders of A or G visas, report a change of address within 10 days of moving by completing a USCIS Form AR-11, Change of Address.

Please follow the instructions below before filing an Online Change of Address to ensure that you follow the correct procedures.

1. U.S. Citizens

If you have moved, and you have a pending case, you can change your address online here on our website. Please note that the law does not require U.S. citizens to file a Form AR-11.

2. Non-U.S. Citizens

If you have moved, you need to follow two different steps:

•Step 1: File a Form AR-11 (This changes your address in our master database.);

•Step 2: If you have a pending case, you must also file a Change of Address online or call our National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283. (This changes your address for the specific application you have submitted.)

Please note that if you are a non-U.S. citizen and you have a pending case, you must complete both steps to make sure that you comply with the regulations and so we can reach you at your correct address.

3. The Process

If you want to change your address online and/or file a Form AR-11 using our Online Change of Address Notification tool, you will need to have certain information available. Please have the following information available before you begin:

•Your receipt notice or other notice we sent you showing your receipt number (if you have a pending case with USCIS);

•Your new address;

•Your old address;

•If you have filed a petition for a family member, the names and biographical information for that person.

If you are a non-U.S. citizen, please also have:

•The date when you last entered the United States (If you cannot remember, please fill in an approximate date.);

•The location where you last entered the United States (the port of entry where you entered – whether by land, sea, or air).

How do I submit my change of address if I don't have my receipt number?

•If you don't have a case pending with USCIS and only need to file an AR-11, you won’t need a receipt number.

•If you have a case pending with USCIS but don't have your receipt number, you can still submit your change of address:

◦If you paid by check: Look at the back of the cancelled check that was returned to you through your bank. On the back is the 13-digit USCIS receipt number which looks like this:

ABC 01 23456789 (but will have different letters and numbers).

Use your 13-digit number when you are asked to enter your receipt number in the change-of-address form.

◦If you paid by money order: You can report your change of address by calling USCIS Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-375-5283. A USCIS Customer Service Representative will be able to enter your new address for you.

Another quick question. Our last address that USCIS has is my sisters address. Should we maybe not worry about it then till after we receive the paperwork from them & change it after we move to the new apartment?

How does the change of address work at the Post Office since we lived with family & if any mail wore to come for us we can pick it up vs. if new tenants moved into our old address & marked our mail as "no longer at this address". Does it only then go back to the PO & they search for our address change?

Well, since it's your family that lives at your last adress, then maybe you should just wait to do the adress change until you move in to the new place? So nothing gets sent to the adress you are at now?

Yes, as long as you're a sponsor on hook for the I-864 you need to file the I-865 if you move.

I filed the AR-11 online and sent Mr. Sachinky's I-865 via regular mail to Nebraska.

The address on the DS230 is my in-law's place so I'm not too worried about the mail.

I just want USCIS to get off it's butt and send me my 'welcome letter' or for O'Hare to get off it's butt and send USCIS my POE envelope so that they can send me my welcome notification.

For those about to POE -- make sure you ask the IO if you've been updated in the SAVE system when crossing over.

I hate this process. It never seems to end.

i am gonna be super noob and ask this.

Can someone tell me the proper steps to take for POE and post POE so that things go well? including if you don't get your welcome letter or SS stuff????

here is what i sort of understand....

Enter USA. (ask if updated in save system?)

(if address has changed file I-865 now?)

Wait 1 or 2 weeks (on avg?) get Welcome Letter and GC???

If you have already said you want an SSN on the DS-230, you wait for it to come in the mail?

If it does not come...you contact the local SS office....if that fails....contact INFOpass? (what is info pass?)

Then wait 2 years to file ROC?

is this right? can anyone post better info or advice?

Should receive in 7-10 days but can take longer since they have to verify A# through DHS. Give it about 14-21 days.

'Welcome Letter' SHOULD be in your mail within 3-4 weeks. If it has been more than 30 days since POE, contact USCIS.

GC should follow in 14 days after the welcome letter which will outline when your GC production has been ordered.

During the process, if you the immigrant move, you will need to file the AR-11 through mail, phone or online.

Your spouse, the USC petitioner, will need to file the I865 through mail.

If you hold a CR-1 visa, you will need to file for ROC, 90 days prior to the expiry of the 2 year GC.

Two Cents:

The AR-11 and I-865. Gotta file both. We're doing the same thing -- moving when he gets here. Or I might move a week before he gets here. Whatever. The address on the DS-230 is my mothers. So I'm just going to wait until we get the GC before filing these little babies.

Info on SAVE from USCIS. Click around if you feel like. It's supposed to help local government agencies verify an alien's immigration status and correct information. Sounds like a nuisance, but I can see the purpose.

And..... Sachi, you're the bomb. Just thought you should know.

We keep pushing back his POE. First September. Now October. The visa says December 8th is the last day. I told him he has until Halloween to get his butt over here or I'm not accepting delivery. The one thing I keep hoping is that the GC snafu will be done with by then. Of course, you all should get your GCs waaay before then.

And, And. How 'bout the US?! I'm sure Husby's going to have plenty to say when I call him tonight.
