Hi everyone,

I am currently a full time student and I obtained my residency through my USC husband. I was talking to a friend of mine who is also a resident and he told me to fill out the FAFSA since the economy is not the best right now. It would really be a great help to pay for my school. I did a little research and from what I know, residents ARE allowed to fill out the FAFSA and it won't affect my citizenship application later on (please if someone knows better let me know). But what I'm really worried about is if it will affect somehow my co-sponsor. So i guess, my real question is...Is FAFSA considered government aid, and will they charge my co-sponsor for any money I receive?

I really hope someone can help me on this. Thank you everyone in advance!

the fafsa itself, no.

for student loans, no

there is gray area on work-study and grants.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to write in case someone is in the same situation as me. Well, after a lot of research and a talk with a couple of lawyers I came to the conclusion that it is ok for residents to apply and take grants from FAFSA. The reasoning behind it is that since this is something completely optional with educational purposes, and it's decided on a merit base system, residents do not have to repay any grants offered. Hope this helps :)
