Passport Certified True Copy???

I need your help guys!

My husband called and asked me to get Certified Copy of my Passport!? I don't know if there is such thing as passport certified true copy. I already sent him scanned copy of my passport. However, the tax guy told him that they need a certified copy and not just a scanned copy of my passport. Geeezz!

Anyhow, he needs that copy for filing taxes.

Does anyone here knows where to get a certified copy of passport? I haven't heard it before.

go to DFA to get a certified copy of your passport your husband is gonna file for his taxes jointly and since you dont have SSN yet a certified copy of your passport is needed

Yes the DFA is the only place for that or possibly the US Embassy (but I doubt it). I just filed my taxes and will ammend them when Mhay gets her SSN. She will be here 9 May, so it's not that long of a wait. I may not even do anything with my taxes though. I was able to file head of household, so I got a good return back already. It is a real pain and you may have to talk to a few different people at the DFA...When we went there they looked at us like we were crazy. We had to give them a filled out copy of the W-7 so we had proof we needed a copy. But they just gave us a letter stating that all the info on her bio page was correct. I have heard that some people have gotten a deal with a red ribbon on it with the copy of the passport.

I contacted the DFA office branch here in my place and they told me they don't issue Certified True Copy but a Certification instead.

I'm also thinking of getting a RED RIBBON at DFA Manila if it's possible.

Do you think the certification from DFA branch in my place will suffice?

I dont know if the certification will suffice....that is what we had and I wasnt real sure it would work. We went to the DFA in manila. Just remember, you can ammend your tax return anytime within the next 3 years. that is why I just decided to file my taxes. I couldnt figure out how to print out from turbotax and paper file. It wouldnt let me just print it because it didnt like that I didnt have a SSN or ITIN for my wife. I will check to see if I will get a better return by ammending it, but I dont think it is worth the hassle at this point.

The certification just has all the information from the bio page with a passport photo glued to it and a raised seal over the picture (of course you need to provide the picture). You can try it and see how it goes. You are looking at waiting at least 1-2 weeks to get the paper from the PI. Oh yeah...your wife will have to go back a couple days later...good thing we had planned on staying in manila for a couple of days. they wouldnt release the certification the same day. So that is another thing to think about. Then once you get everything you could have to wait 6-8 weeks to get your tax return.

If you need it for your ITIN as proof of ID - then a copy of your biographic page certified at the US Embassy will suffice, if it's easier to obtain.

I went to DFA office this afternoon and was told that they don't give certification on newly issued readable passport (the brown one). I was advised to go to the office at the Municipal City Hall (Clerk of Court) and ask for the Certified True Copy of my passport. I went straight to City Hall and they told me to have my passport notarized so they could issue me a Certified True Copy. Sounds good though... The bad thing was, no judge available this afternoon and tomorrow. I will be back there next week...by Tuesday because Monday was declared a non-working holiday!

Look up the Hague Convention...the Philippines is not part of it for notaries...SO according to the instructions of the W-7 they may not accept it. I hope they will though. i have read where people have just sent photocopies of the passport bio page and had no issues. How much longer do you have to wait for the Japanese police clearance? It might be less hassle to just wait until you are in the US to get your social security number. The ITIN is too much of a PITA to get now. Used to be you could just apply for it and not have to paper file your taxes. Either way you guys go on this, good luck to you! You shouldnt have too much longer once you get the Japanese police clearance anyway.

Yayyy! I hope it will get accepted.

My Japanase police clearance will be available in the next two weeks. Hopefully, I will have a July interview. If everything goes well, I will be flying to the US as soon as I get my visa (after getting CFO sticker. LOL!).
