I see proof of at all around me. It has taken us thousand of years to understand the most simplest of things, with infinitely more that is still unknown. The complexity of the world, of nature, of the human body is truly fascinating.

So your point is because the world is complex beyond the understanding of even a person with the brain of an Einstein means that there is a Flying Cheeseburger & Fries who floats around the universe that is Supreme Being, Supreme Chili Fries and Cheeseburger?

That is great. The sun is huge. It is very hot and very far away. You can fit ONE MILLION EARTHS inside the area of the sun. And the sun is a TINY STAR when compared to others!!! This makes the earth so MICROSCOPIC and IRRELEVANT when compared to the size of the universe. The sun rises and sets. An American male human heart will beat NON STOP, every single second of the day, for about 78 years (although I'm sure an Australian heart lasts much longer!).

You plant a little fricking seed in the ground and you can have a gigantic tree that grows fruit.

The fastest spacecraft (built by man) travels 157,000 miles in one hour.

A human being goes to sleep and doesn't wake up sometimes for 10 hours. There are lots of animals, fish, birds, reptiles. Some of them are stored in zoos by zookeepers.

There are telephones that you speak into and can hear another voice from hundreds of miles away in real time.

You can record life and replay it on a tv via the video camera.

The iPad, the greatest technological achievement known to mankind was released only a couple weeks ago YET man has been around since Adam (about 7,000 years ago according to biblical calculations).

The technology, the science, the nature, life, it is so fascinating. Therefore I hereby conclude today that there is a LARGE BURGER AND FRIES COVERED IN CHILI AND KETCHUP that patrols the galaxy.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

It's safe to say, based on your loony signature and incoherent posts, you are full of Michigan you know what; or you are 14 years old.

Target me all you want, I can take it and I won't rat you out to the mods.

How is anything I said taking the amendment "out of context"? Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptists in 1802 and said, among other things: "...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State." Jefferson was also a believer in God. Every single word does not need to be specifically mentioned in the constitution itself to make it apply.

So it's not in the Constitution but in some letter. #######?

Does that mean that if GWB sent a letter, it too would become law?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

No, not "some" letter. A letter from one of the founding fathers which has been used in supreme court decisions. Have you any more ridiculous assertions?

Where is this letter? When was it used?

Oh you mean the geniuses that make up the US supreme court used a letter to make their 'personal' decision.

I don't recall being assigned to research American historical law for you. The constitution is interpreted by supreme court justices all the time. This should not be a surprise to you. If you're asking for the exact location of the letter, I can't help you there - I don't track down historical documents in my free time. If you are looking for a complete list of all supreme court decisions that this letter has been used in, I can't help you there either. Again, I'm not your research assistant. A 2 second search of google turned up Reynold vs. United States as one case. Do a little reading and then come back to the table. Ok?

FYI: James Madison, another founding father, also proposed that the 1st amendment addressed separation of church and state. Again, why don't you take some time to educate yourself on this topic before you attempt to "contribute" to this discussion again.

How can there be tolerance of all religious views if she rejects the separation of church and state?

"separation of Church and State".... where do you get this stuff?

You are confusing some Constitutional concept with the social atmosphere of the country.

This country by it's culture, traditions, founding and people is clearly a "Christian nation".

IN fact, if you disagree, tell me what has more influence?

Is there really so much tolerance of different religious views? If this thread is a snapshot of the population, I would lean towards a rather low level of tolerance.

Never make the mistake in thinking VJ is a "snapshot" of anything but... VJ.

As a result, technically forcing and demanding atheism is the promotion of a belief.

Reading comprehension turned off today, buddy?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

How is that forcing and demanding atheism? Technically or otherwise. You're seriously deluded.

I agree, the US is a christian nation. One nation, UNDER GOD. However, we are tolorant of other beliefs. Look at any map of the US showing the different religions by area. It is christian. If you don´t fit in, then you are the minority. Is it a bad thing ?. IMO, no. You just don´t follow the christian faith. The majority of US CITIZENS DO. Sorry, I have no stats or references to back this up but we all know its true. Accept it. If you don´t believe or follow another god, go right ahaed. MOST of us in this country are tollorant of you, however, don´t deny our foundings.

personally, I am not the most religous in the world. But I do believe. And I will continue on after I die. Spegehetti man or not! I, like many others in this great land, are christians, weather we follow or not. So don´t even think the US isin´t just because of your beliefs.

I´m sick and tired of seeing things changed so they won´t OFFEND the minority. Don´t believe----no problem. Don´t make the rest of us not believe eaither!

Besides, what have I got to lose if I´m wrong?

“To Bigotry No Sanction, to Persecution No Assistance”

George Washington's Letter to the Jews of Newport, Rhode Island (1790)

The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for giving to Mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection, should demean themselves as good citizens.

...

May the Children of the Stock of Abraham, who dwell in this land, continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other Inhabitants; while every one shall sit under his own vine and fig tree, and there shall be none to make him afraid.

One of the things about life on this planet that I find most interesting, is a phenomenon that some would call a "coincidence". That, from an observer on Earth, the moon is proportionally the same size as the sun based on their distance from each other and also the distance from Earth.

For those that are slow (or drunk) I'm referring to a solar eclipse of the sun.
