I waited 2 months and never received it, but I had a SS# from years ago, so it wasn't a problem to start working again. I just went to the SS administration, filled in a new form and my new SS card arrived within 7 days :)

Don't wait for it to arrive, just go and apply again is my advice. Also, you can apply for jobs, and they can always add your social later even if you get hired first. That is an option for all employers, as many students come over in the summer on a J-1 and wait for a month for the card. Does it mean they have to loose a month of work and pay when their working authorization period is only 4 months? Go and get the job now, good luck!

My wife got hers in 10 days. I have heard that as long as you have the EAD, you can start work as long as the application for SSN is processing. Hopefully someone else has more concrete info about that, but I know I've read it in multiple places.

1/26/10 - NOA

5/04/10 - interview appt - approved

ROC

If your application has in fact been cleared and an SSN record has been established, you can go back into the office with ID and get your number. You can also request an SSN Verification Printout. Not the same as the card, but something until the card arrives in the mail. I would say you want it to show your employer that you have an SSN.

The amount of time it takes to receive your card is going to depend on how far you are away from SSA Headquarters in Maryland and your mail service. Normally, it will arrive in less than 14 days, but if you haven't received it in at least that amount of time, you need to head back into the office to report non receipt of the card. The office can resubmit your application. Be sure to double check the mailing address on the application.

My husband's SS card took 3 MONTHS to arrive in the mail!!!! We got the green card FASTER than the SS#!!! I would just wait. They are VERY unpredictable with the time-frame!!!! Hope yours doesn't take as long as my husband's did. Good luck & HAVE PATIENCE! It depends on where your spouse was born & the language of their birth certificate. My husband was born in Egypt so his birth certificate was in Arabic. They do not accept outside translations. we were told it would take 1 month & it took a little over months & A LOT of bugging them until we FINALLY got it.

Depends on the work load.

Getting your SSN in the mail within 14 days has nothing with work loads. Once the SSA office clears the application, the SSN record is established over night and the card is printed at the National Computer Center at Social Security Headquarters. There are truck loads of mail taken to the main Post Office in Baltimore everyday and SSN cards are in that mail. I'm pretty sure the Post Office doesn't sit on mail.

The time it takes to process the application and time it takes to receive the card are two separate things. The processing of the application depends on how long it takes to verify immigration status and translate documents. Those do depend somewhat on how busy the Social Security, the immigration verification and the translation offices are and can takes months. Times vary from application to application.

Once the application has been processed just about everyone receives the card within two weeks.

Well , It depends of the Officer Handle your Paper work, Like what i experience , the Officer I encounter is a Trainee, And it Happens I waited for 2 Weeks, but After 2 weeks is Over, My SSN , Still not Coming, So I Started Calling, E- mailing, the SSN Site, when i got touched to one Officer It Says, Well you have your Number here, so < if this week did'nt Comes in your Mail you have to comeback and Will give you the Number in Person and re- Apply for Another one, So, I have no choice with in 3 Weeks , and really did not come, So What I did is, I came back to SSN Office, to Re- Apply again, I was told , and they Say Sorry because the first person Handle my paper Work is A Trainee, And this is The results, After I re- Apply I Got SSN Card in One Week.
