How did you guys/gals get marry within 90 day? I got fiancée from apply to arrival in 5 months, much faster then I had planned. So fast, that I had not planned out every detail. Now she is here, I am scrambling on getting married with in 90day. Did you guys just go to a church and get marry, in normal cloth, so you can get the marriage certificate ASAP. Then the REAL marriage with banquette later? A proper marriage planning and execution takes much longer then the given 90 days.

Thanks

I am so happy!

CONGRATS!!

I guess it really depends on what you want out of your ceremony. I've seen some VJers do a civil ceremony and then a second family/celebration ceremony later. I've personally never wanted a huge wedding. We were able to plan out everythingwithout paying and explain to our vendors the flexibility we needed in dates.

Now that we have the interview date, we actually had to move everything up because the process was quicker than we expected!

So yes it's possible, but it depends on what you want it to be.

My fiancee will be arriving on May 28 and we've discussed the arrangements. She and I both came to the conclusion that a small civil ceremony (Justice of the Peace) will suffice.

As a surprise (she has no idea) we'll be headed back to Costa Rica as soon as we can arrange advance parole and we'll have a second ceremony with her family and friends.

Best of luck to you and your fiancee,

Alan

First, on her approval she had 6 months to arrive. If you needed more time she could have waited.

Second, yes it is perfectly possible. You have had 5 months to plan. I had 6 and I had the full-on wedding. Big white dress, large reception, videographer, photographer etc etc.

What details do you have left? The hardest is ensuring your location is available (for both the ceremony and reception) the rest is relatively easy. As long as you are married in the 90 days, it doesn't matter if it's day 85 or even day 89 (I think 90 is pushing it :P).

It will be completely fine but if you're concerned, then yes you can do a small civil ceremony and then the big part later.

We took a bit of a risk and put deposit money down on the venue, entertainment, and photographer before the visa was approved. To be fair, I'm from a relatively low-fraud country, our case had no red flags, and we booked way, way ahead - almost a year ahead (I-129 filed Oct 24, 2008. Wedding planned for September 12, 2009. Visa approved April 30, 2009). It was a risk, but to our minds a relatively small one. Indeed, we were more worried, initially, about the visa being approved too early than too late.

As far as the planning went, my USC wife's family did virtually all of the planning. I helped with decorations and stuff after I showed up in mid June, but the planning was basically done by then.

Depending on what consulate you're going through, I don't know if I'd recommend doing what we did. Part of what made this work for us is that I was working as a school teacher, and we knew that no matter how quickly the visa was approved, I wouldn't be entering the US until mid-June anyways. We knew that I would be entering in mid-June, for a wedding two months later. We figured that as long as the approval happened in a 6 month window starting sometime after the end of January 2009, everything would work out.

Most people do a quick civil ceremony (justice of the peace) and start the paperwork, and then have a big ceremony for friends and family later.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

USCIS could not possibly care less about a "proper marriage" they do care about a legal marriage. we got married on our fron lawn by our neighbor, a JP, 8 days after Alla arrived. I suggest you do the same and then follow up later with anything else you consider proper.

Dekaying the marriage risks your fiance(e)s potential benfits in the USA. Should anything happen to you before the time you get married, your fiance(e) is out of luck

if timing is an issue, then go to the local courthouse and get married by a judge - that IS the fastest way to do it.

Plan a wedding celebration for later, you betcha !

We started looking at Venues etc as soon as we sent out the K1 petition.

I looked at the internet for possible places and send him to check them out.

We put a deposit down on the venue and I looked at it when I arrived in the states.

We had a civil ceremony within the 90 days frame and just planned the big Party with family and friends for late though but it all worked out fine.

I came to the U.S in Feb, we had the civil ceremony in April and the big Party is in June.

good luck

You need to have your REAL marriage within the 90 days, all the rest is just fluff!

Once you have the legal marriage certificate you've meet the requirements for immigration and can start your AOS process. You will then have all the time you need to plan whatever else it is you wish to do.

You are right - 90 days can fly by in a real hurry. I know for us, I had taken a month and a half away from work to be with my fiancee (wife now :D ) for the interview so when we came to the US I had to return to work and was (still am) so busy.

We did a civil ceremony. My family is "old family" so we are not going to have another big wedding. We had a full blown cermony in Vietnam with her family and friends with over 350 guests. Now were just content with or civil marriage and are planning a big party this summer with friends. No more pressure - just fun!

Don't stress it out - take care of the immigration requirements 1st, then take your time and plan something out that can meet your expectations ~without all the stress of rushing to get things done. There is still plenty to do in regards to AOS and you don't need to much stress hanging over your heads.

Relax a bit and enjoy each other

Go to the county office and apply for a marriage license. Then wait the prescribed number of days and then go to the county courthouse and be married by the county judge. You can wear jeans and nice shoes and don't need any witnesses (may vary by State) and then you're legally married. Big ceremony later when you fell like it.

We had a religious ceremony in our own home. We happened to have a large, empty living room with a fireplace and we decorated it beautifully and had a minister and guests come there. While we didn't have an exact date until I had the interview (I was 99.9999% sure I'd be approved) so we arranged the other details...made a guest list, planned on the food, decorations, invitations and bought my dress while still at home in Canada etc....

It was very small and informal...we had about 15 guests...close family members and best friends and got married in the morning and hosted a brunch right afterwards. We did it 2 weeks after I moved to the US.

You can do many beautiful things even if it is just you and your wife to be and no guests. You can arrnage a getaway even for a night and maybe be married at the justice of the peace earlier that day....anything can be special if you want it to be.

Good luck

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think we will first get the marriage license in low profile setting. Then a bigger wedding at a later time. Currently, the wifey is stressed out about the transition. I don't want to increase her stress with wedding stuff. She got enough on her plate already. Learning English, making new friends, without her family by her side. Thanks for all you help!
