Get your marriage license in one province...

Hi fellow VJerz...

One of our fellow VJerz wants to know...is it OK to get their marriage license in Tagum City, Mindinao, and then get married in Manila or Boracay?

Also, our fellow VJer is in the U.S. military and has only 21 days of leave in order to travel from Germany to the Philippines, get married, and then travel back to Germany. Is there any faster way to legally get a marriage license in the Philippines? I searched for a thread that talked about this topic, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for your help!

Tahoma - Thanks for posting this! I appreciate it tremendously!

I think the answer is yes to the first question (license in one province and marry in another)...but would love to hear actual confirmation from someone....

And I had her ask about getting the marriage license quicker (before I got there) and of course, they (Tagum City) said "no way!"...I've read that it is possible (in some cases) but don't know what those cases might be. And they must not know either :)

Again..THANK YOU!~

The marriage License requires a 10 day (includes weekend days) so apply for the license as soon as you can after you get there. There is no other way to bypass the 10 days waiting period.

I was married in the Philippine in November 2009. I also had only 21 days visit. You will need to have all of your and your fiance's documentation in order before you go.

On your first day in the Philippines go to the US Embassy and get your affidavit of eligibility to marry. You will need your passport/birth cert/proof of termination of all previous marriages/etc.

Your fiancee will need to have her certified birth cert from NSO and a certificate of eligibility of availability to marry. Depending on her age you may need an approval from her parents.

Go to a civil registrar's office and apply for the marriage certificate. You will need to take all of the above documents with you.

Take a 10 day vacation and enjoy spending time with your girl then go back and get married. I recommend that you make an appointment in advance for the marriage as some of the smaller islands do not have a mayor available every day to perform the marriage.

Good luck!

I forgot to answer the other question. The marriage certificate is good for anywhere in the Philippines.

Yes, they can get their marriage lincense at the bride's place and get married wherever they want. We applied for our marriage lincense in Makati City and got married in Leyte. There is no faster way to get a legal marriage license in the Philippines other than 10 days as it requires by all LCRs all over the country.

When I married Anna in Jan of 2009 we were at the US Embassy in Manila early AM on Jan 20th and ran to the buses back to Tarlac so we were at the Civil Registry in Paniqui (4 hours on bus) by mid-afternoon. We had the ceremony (Paniqui Mayor came to Anna's house & married us in the living room) and party on Jan 21st. Of course you generally can't do it like this, in fact all of the legal documents were dated Jan 30th, 2009. We spent the 10 day "waiting period" on our Honeymoon.

They could do the same thing, just have the "official" part upon their return from the honeymoon!

Thanks for your reply, godsgift. I believe our fellow VJer is open to having either a church wedding or a civil wedding. It's good to know that his Pinay fiancée needs permission from her church.

I swear I read here on VJ about a couple who legally got their marriage license in less than ten days.

At the time, I didn't pay much attention to the way they got their marriage license, but it seemed to involve sending it to the U.S. citizen, and then sending it to the U.S. citizen's local Philippines Embassy here in the U.S....or something like that. Of course, that entire process took more than ten days, but it was basically completed by the time the U.S. citizen went to the Philippines. Once he arrived in the Philippines, the couple did not have to wait to get married...they already had their license.

Hey Bob 4 Anna...I admire your creativity! You guys found a way to get it done. I like your idea.

I'm guessing that you were at the Embassy to get your affidavit, and then went to the Civil Registry to apply for the marriage license.

Your welcome! Civil wedding. I believe they can do that way, but yes it will take the whole process even longer.

Yep, at the Embassy before they opened, in & out pretty quickly that morning, ran to the next bus back to the province and went from the bus stop straight to Municipal Hall. She called Mom who met us there with the document she needed. It was a busy day for sure...
