OK, I am slightly confused now. I sent my K-1 petition off to the Nebraska Service Center (NSC) like a good little girl the other day--to exactly the P.O. Box they required. But now I'm reading all this stuff that says that the K-1s sent to the NSC are actually processed by the California Service Center (CSC)???!!! Is that ALL of Nebraska's K-1s or just the ones concerning certain countries--or what? Can this really be true? If it is, why didn't they just tell me to send my petition to the CSC to begin with, for Pete's sake? All this paper juggling makes me nervous...Too many opportunities for screw-ups! And from what I see, the CSC has the highest turn-around times...UGH!!!! Not encouraging...

I was feeling so happy that I finally got the dang thing in the mail on Tuesday...until now. Anyone have any insight on this issue...why the CSC would be processing stuff for other regions? I'm really curious...

Thanks!

January 2004: Met Laurent at the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris

February 2004: We became an actual couple

January 29th, 2006: I left France to return to the United States--AWFUL to say goodbye!

June 2006: Finally convinced Laurent that a K-1 visa would be more time-effective than trying to get an H-1

August 1st, 2006: The K-1 petition is finally in the mail and on its way to Nebraska...WooHoooo!! And yes, I remembered to attach the check! :-)

August 3rd, 2006: USPS online tracking shows that my petition (sent certified) was received at the NSC at 5:05am

August 14th, 2006: NOA1 received USPS!! (I-129F recv'd at CSC: 8/4; NOA date: 8/10; last touched: 8/11)

October 2nd, 2006: I MISTAKENLY thought we had an approval...False alarm...Back to waiting...

October 3rd, 2006: TOUCHED!!

October 4th, 2006: REALLY AND TRULY APPROVED!!! Email notification lists 10/3 as the NOA2 date.

Later that same day: TOUCHED...AGAIN! Hope that means I'm in a cozy box and moving to NVC this week...

October 10th, 2006: Received official NOA2 via snail mail.

October 19th, 2006: Case received at NVC!! AWESOME!!

October 20th, 2006: Case forwarded to Paris!! DHL says two shipments were headed that way. Must be in there somewhere...

I-129fs filed with NSC are sent from Nebraska to CSC. Apparently, it has do to with specialized service centers. VSC and CSC handle all I-129fs now. Eventually you'll get a notice about the transfer. Good luck!

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

VSC and CSC are the only 2 centers processing I-129F's at this time. You were correct by sending it to NSC even though they will transfer it to CSC. No rhyme or reason to it. They do this from time to time depending on workload apparently. The processing times on USCIS website are meaningless at this point so don't go by them. Keep an eye on peoples timelines here and you'll get a little bit better idea.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

In a nutshell, because USCIS are a bunch of morons!!

With that said, you sent it to the correct location as Nebraska will forward your petition to California Service Center. Nebraska no longer processes I-129F petitions, but they have not established the protocol for direct CSC delivery yet. All I-129F petitions are being processed in California or Vermont, under this consolidation.

You are in good shape. Good Luck!!!

Thanks so much for explaining, everyone. I guess I'll just keep an eye on the timelines here, then, and keep my fingers crossed. I read in another thread that the CSC is now processing petitions from July 10th. Is that sounding about right...?

and expect your NOA1 from California.

Where did you read they were processing petitions from July 10? hee hee. Due to the IMBRA law screw-up (see IMBRA forum), there is no rhyme or reason you can 100% rely on as to who they process first, but you are in for a long wait. Do not expect less than a month. Their published "now processing" date is in early March.

Man alive! Makes me glad I sent that puppy certified mail. At least by checking the USPS tracking number online, I know the petition was received yesterday at 5am! Okeedokee, then. Guess I'll just settle back and wait for my California-sent NOA1 so I can say my packet is sitting in a "To Review" pile somewhere.

Time to get myself an avatar. I'm going to be hanging out here a lot...I have a feeling the psychological support is going to come in very handy as the days drag by...

I left Paris at the end of January. Laurent and I have already been apart for a full six months...ARGHHH!!! We're both hatin' it...Thank God for Vonage and free calls to France!

Thanks for the welcome William33 and thanks for the empathy Sleepless. You certainly have mine, as well. What part of Paris were you living in?

The IMBRA thing...Everyone keeps talking about it, and I understand a little bit about what happened, but can someone explain that fiasco better and why it affected even people who--it seems to me--it shouldn't have?

Where in Paris were you staying, Sleepless? I'm curious. I feel like reminiscing...Sigh...

Here's a simple IMBRA explanation - a new law was signed in January and went into effect on March 6. The idea was to protect foreign fiances from bad Americans who they met via a marriage broker. But EVERY petition filed after March 5 was affected - not just people who met via marriage broker (stupid lawmakers). Then USCIS f*ucked up and didn't provide new forms until well into June and didn't start sending RFEs, to request the missing information in order to comply with the law, until the end of June.

That's why you see a bunch of pissed off, bordering-on-alcoholic people here who have been waiting since March 6 forward for approval of a petition that normally took about 8 weeks max. Oh, and poor people like Sleepless had already been approved, with fiance en route to interview, when USCIS woke up and decided to recall those petitions, yet not give them priority processing.

Welcome to our world. May you have a much more peaceful and fast journey!
