What to do about EAD...

Hi

I submitted my AOS package with EAD application in March. Just completely biometrics last week (Apr 19). I have a job offer and they would like me to start ASAP. My question is, how long does it usually take to get the EAD? I have not seen much information about EAD in people's signature..

Do you usually get EAD before GC interview? If I don't get it by then, can I start working with the stamp on my passport as soon as I pass the interview?

Thank you!!

It takes around three months to be processed, if you look at the timelines section, it can tell you what NOA dates they are working on for EAD and AP.

Sometimes people get their Green Card before the EAD, sometimes the other way round. If you have your interview and they give you a stamp, you can start working right away.

Just out of curiosity, why are you going for job interviews when you can't work yet, and don't know when you will be able to work?

Does that mean the passport is stamped on the day of the

successful interview indicating EAD confirmation

or permanent residency status or both?

Some people get the temporary green card stamp the day of the interview, some don't. I think it all depends where and who interviews you! The stamp indicated that permanent residency as been established, and you can use it as a green card until you get the proper one in the mail.

I received my EAD in the mail one week after I completed the biometrics. Some other people here didn't even get the EAD,they just got the Green Card. Every case processing times vary. Anyway, I would advice you to wait until you get an employment authorization-either EAD or GC-before you accept any job offers. Good luck!!!

Thank you all for your reply.

I started job searching as soon as I got married, because I'm living in a different city from my hubby now due to my job (currently on H1b). So I thought since the economy is bad it might take me a while. Plus I figured I should get a new job in his town ASAP so they won't start questioning us living apart during the interview. To my surprise job searching was fairly easy so now I have a different problem =/

BTW I have a question regarding AOS date... I see two dates on my receipt, one is the received date (Mar 18) the other is the receipt date (Mar 25). Which one is the "AOS date" people refer to here?

I totally understand. I too have been applying to jobs, because sometimes the opportunity is too good to just let pass. Also, with AOS you have a fairly good idea of the time range it takes (I say 3-5 months when anyone asks). The jobs I'm applying for are generally advance hires anyway, with companies expecting us to start after we graduate (which is after my estimated GC approval).

Hello,

Please allow me to add my question on this topic.

My wife does not have SSN yet, and I think that she'll get GC first. (There is only "touched" on I-765 on March 23rd, and it is still at "Initial Review").

Would she being able to start working if she could get a stamp at interveiw before she gets SSN?

I would assume that she would get GC if approved a week to 10 days from day of interview, but she may have to start working at a new job before she gets SSN.

Or does anyone know that SSN could be issued by the office by providing a stamp on passport?

Please advise.

Thanks,
