Use a litmus test of course, but always be somewhat suspicious.

Truck or van full of Mexican males. Unless they are just going on a day trip.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I'm saying "1 in 5" of hispanics in the country are illegal. Not total illegals.

Actually close to 2 in 5 would be illegal.

So discriminating against the 4/5 or 3/5 (whatever statistic you chose to use) of the population that is here legally is ok with you? They are citizens, yet held to a different standard than citizens of a different race. That is by definition racism BY. But you don't seem to be overly concerned with that anyways.

....no one cares about the police and the potential costs I see...

The real problem that local police departments are going to run into is enforcement. They don't have the jurisdiction to jail someone for being an illegal immigrant, nor do they have the power to deport them. All they can do is call ICE and inform them of the detained person and ask if they wish to take custody of them.

If the chief or sheriff in charge deemed that it would be a priority to track down illegals, they can do it. It is easy to manufacture probable cause to stop someone and then they must produce said documents. The dilema as I see it is, if they present their Drivers license and declare that they are a U.S. citizen. What now? The officer can detain the person and take them to the police station to verify that. If it turned out that the person was a citizen, then they would have a good case for false imprisonment.

A long term problem that police departments would face is the taboo of police in hispanic neighborhoods. You would see zero cooperation with the police for fear of them deporting someone in their family. You would also see fewer crimes reported. Now, in BY world, I suppose this would be good, but It really isn't.

the money illegal immigration is costing the police departments is 1 of the reasons this law was introduced. but, that has escaped you i see.

It doesn't really change the question, how will this be paid for and do you really think the majority of police want to do this.

Illegal immigration doesn't cost police departments any money. They will take an illegal immigrant into custody, if he has commited a crime. Now, forcing police departments to enforce immigration laws in addition to their own duties will drive up costs.

they're already spending money on arresting & re-arresting the ones committing crimes. they're going to end up in one of sheriff joes camps until the feds come get'em, or make a call on illegal immigration.

it doesn't matter if they want to do it. its their job.

man hours arresting & re-arresting the same illegals who don't get deported doesn't cost?
