This topic at hand interests me so I'm still hanging out on this thread.

Hypothetical situations, not so much.

I just relayed to you (a few posts back) that I un-hypothetically know someone IN REAL LIFE who was forced to show their green card when hired for a job.

I know you think none of this could possibly apply to you, but you don't live here yet. And your experience in academia is not a qualifier for real life in the US.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

The FEDERAL government should fine the living $hit out of employers who hire illegal entrants. Frequently. And with gusto.

How should they catch them? You oppose any form of proactive law enforcement. Money says you would cry murder on any random raid of their books or sites.

If photocopies don't mean squat, then I'll carry my passport.

And I'm not sure how following/protesting the law makes one submissive. You wear a seatbelt when you drive, yea? Does that make you submissive?

There are two sides to every issue. I happen to fall on one side of this issue and you label me as submissive because I choose to follow the law and also happen to agree with it.

And if I stand up for gay marriage because I truly believe homosexuals have the same right to happiness as heterosexuals do, then what? I'm no longer submissive but am instead an aggressive rebel standing up for other people's rights?

You'd be comfortable with the laws creating an environment where you feel the need to carry your passport while your fellow US citizens of paler complexions do not feel the same need? If that's something you'd be ok with it, I guess there's really not much else to discuss, is there.

How many have you had to come to the conclusion that I oppose any form of pro-active law enforcement?

The laws are already on the books to allow ICE to enter the workplace for a raid. They have to have probable cause and they have to get a warrant. For it to be effective there needs to be more of them and the fines and penalties need ratcheted up.

Do you have any other questions?

No, because I might find myself in a bind as the result of any lawful contact with AZ's agencies since I won't be in any position to prove my citizenship to them. Unless, of course, I pretend forthwith that whenever I travel to AZ, I actually undertake a trip overseas and pack my passport. Which, however, according to the 4th amendment of the Constitution the state of AZ has no right to require of me.

Don't break any law and then they won't have any probably cause. End of story.

A law that hasn't even come into effect yet will only have hypothetical situations.

Again, I was referring to the whole hypothetical situation of "my employer asking for my GC" situation.

There are two sides to every issue.

This is only true if you look at the world in black and white.

Why do people always say there are two sides? Why not 3 sides? 8 sides? 20 sides?

Indeed. Not a lot you can really say to that.

So what did that person do? Did they show it? Or did they tell their potential employer that they were breaking the law?

I lived there for four years in a hippie town, and while I'm sure college life is not the "real world" it did give me a fair idea about life in the U.S.

You get dumber with every subsequent post Ronald. How the #### are they doing to get a warrant if they have no way of knowing who is illegal?

If the law requires me to carry it or common sense dictates that I would be better served with it in my possession in a certain part of the country, then, yes, I would carry it.
