Just because they're breaking some kind of an obscure law that honestly doesn't even make sense to me, I'm not going to get hot and bothered about it and start yakking about my human rights violations and such.

So again, you don't care if your rights are infringed...

That's what would be needed for this kind of State level policy to work. But a national ID card would not fly at the National level. An uphill battle at the very least...

I know and I pointed that out earlier. Interestingly, the same political force that pushed this ####### in AZ would be the one in strongest opposition to a federal government takeover of ID issuance. Dishonest bastards.

People defending this thing are putting a lot of faith in the local John Q Law understanding as much about immigration as the average VJ poster, which I seriously doubt most of them do. Do they know that an NOA1 is proof of legal status for someone arriving on a K visa with pending AOS or that it can extend the validity of a 2 year green card with LOC is being processed? I suspect they, like most of the general public, think they hand them out at the Justice of the Peace. Everyone who spends any amount of time on this site knows that government agencies like the Social Security office and the DMV often don't know their a$$ from the elbow when it comes proving your status.

My husband was pulled over in AZ when he was here as a tourist and they didn't even know what the #### an international driving license looked like. This was near the Grand Canyon, a place I imagine receives a lot of international tourists. And speaking of tourists, I guess all of them visiting places like the Grand Canyon will have to carry their passports at all times, including when they go rafting in the Colorado or swimming at their pool at their motel.

Will AZ be investing in training for them to understand what many of us have spent hours studying on this website trying to understand when it comes to doing things "legally"? I really doubt it.

A Green Card proves immigrant status. A driver's license does not.

Guys guys guys. The solution is right here. All Arizona needs to do is mandate what is know as an enhanced drivers license for citizens, something already used by numerous northern states. Problem bloody solved, as it has your status. If someone does not drive they can get a similar State Id card.

Citizens are covered and as it stands all LPR have to carry their green-card anyway.

Oh are we picking and choosing now which laws it is OK to comply with and which it is not?

Besides, it's not obscure, sachinky. It involves everyone who has a job in the US.

Every employer asks every employee to complete an I-9 form. The instructions on how to use the form are printed on the back. HR people should know the law and if they don't there's also a handy-dandy Employer Guide available for them to read.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Obviously, you've never been in a position where you actually hire people. Breaking this "obscure law" could cost your employer dearly and would surely get you fired in a jiffy. So, just in case you ever move into the ranks of hiring managers, be aware of this "obscure law" and make sure to obey it.

The only way that would work is if the entire country adopted a single, centralized standard for driver's licenses.

Bit of a brainfart here, bro. Since when does AZ get to dictate what ID other states issue and what information it does and doesn't contain?

The only way that would work is if the entire country adopted a single, centralized standard for driver's licenses.

That was supposed to happen with all drivers licenses anyway.

The enhanced ID card is just an additional feature which allows the license to be used as a passport between Mexico and Canada.

Actually the enhanced ID is linked to a federal database and uses the same security as obtaining a passport.

Wouldn't it make sense to wait until these standards are in place before passing laws like this?

These signs are going to go up on all entrances into Arizona.

So again, you don't care if your rights are infringed...

Firstly, they can ask for it. I can CHOOSE to show it to them or not. How are my rights being infringed?

And even if they were, it is certainly not something that I would care very much about. Nothing that would cause me to make some placards and start shouting slogans.
