Different states, different gun laws.

Different states, different ID requirements.

Nothing more to it.

The problem, BY is that without a national requirement for USCs to carry a passport as proof of ID - it limits their ability to travel within their own country.

It doesn't exactly sound Kosher does it.

So, passport mandatory when I leave the house, yes?

All I asked was where it was in the Constitution.

There's a lot more to it. My ability to freely move about the country would be inhibited if my state issued ID isn't good enough in another state of the Union.

All I asked was where it was in the Constitution.

That's not the point. I have no way of proving my status carrying the required ID on me.

Yes, I got that from your previous posts. I was wondering if it's more of an "it's against my principles" thing or whether it was something that you were used to (passports being used to determine citizenship at airports) and current changing laws (perhaps, now being required to carry proof of citizenship by state law when travelling within the U.S.)

I know what the law is--I was wondering what your personal objection to it is.

Realistically, what difference is there in the requirement that all drivers carry a license or all PR carry their GC? Absolutely none.

A Green Card proves immigrant status. A driver's license does not.

How about asking for status when applying for government services? Or do you guys have a problem with that too?

Clearly, you're not similarly outraged when you have to produce your passport at JFK so you have no problem proving your citizenship status to TSA or DHS.

But you have a problem proving it to your local PD?

Why? (General curiousity why, not a rhetorical why).

Because the states have no legal authority over an aliens residency, that's why.

I will see you one day again, my love.

It's a principle. This is one nation and as a citizen of this nation, I should be able to move about without having to meet the same documentary burden I have to meet for travel outside of the country. If the country decides to introduce a mandatory national ID that shows whether I am a citizen, fine. That's not what we're looking at, though.

Because, if you have a driver's license and an unrestricted SS card, they are BREAKING THE LAW if they ask you!

That's why you should mind!

Just because they're breaking some kind of an obscure law that honestly doesn't even make sense to me, I'm not going to get hot and bothered about it and start yakking about my human rights violations and such.

That's what would be needed for this kind of State level policy to work. But a national ID card would not fly at the National level. An uphill battle at the very least...

No problem there. Put a notation on all driver's licenses as to the status of the holder of that license, and I won't complain either. At the end of the day, I am opposed to being burdened with essentially a requirement to obtain and carry a passport for interstate travel. That's what this AZ clusterfcuk of a law boils down to.
