Again, your soooo hung-up on color! Why is that? Here is a Hispanic gentleman and if pulled over and couldnt prove he was here legally would be GONE! Color has nothing to do with it!

Marc is on the ball today. How true, how bloody racist to assume that all Mexicans look the same.

The only interactions I have with customs is when I return from overseas travel where I am required to carry a US passport to re-enter the US. No issue there. Any US citizen can - and many actually do - avoid any contact with customs by simply not leaving the US. Apples and oranges, buddy.

Don't go to Arizona.

Clearly, you're not similarly outraged when you have to produce your passport at JFK so you have no problem proving your citizenship status to TSA or DHS.

But you have a problem proving it to your local PD?

Why? (General curiousity why, not a rhetorical why).

Anyone found anywhere in the Constitution that states local PD should not be able to ask for status.

Again....

There

Is

No

Federal

Requirement

That

US

Citizens

Must

Own

Passports

Similarly

There

Is

No

Federal

Or

State

Requirement

That

US

Citizens

Carry

Passports

On

Their

Person

To

Prove

Who

They

Are

If you aren't going out of the country, you don't need a passport. Even if you have one you aren't obligated to carry it when you travel within the USA.

It's probably advisable to do so if the law is enforced.

I have no problem with the law if EVERYBODY is going to be asked to prove their residency.

Somehow I don't think that will be the case.

Again....

Awesome, but what is stopping Arizona from implementing this law? Constitution?

This state requirement is no different to the numerous gun laws across various states. Some require 101 checks and fees, others only mandate a simple form of ID. Heck, they even have the decency to give everyone ample notice to get out of their state.

They can implement the law, whether the AZ police can make practical use out of it is another matter.

Which, and how many of the 50 States require more than a valid Driver's license or State issued ID in order for people to travel there?

Of course it won't.

I will stand up when I believe my rights are truly being violated. Call me lazy, but I don't feel like making a hue and cry over nothing essentially. Asking me to produce a document that I'm mandated by Federal law to have on my person at all time to begin with is not something that I consider as an infringement of my rights.

I have a (slight) accent, I don't look/talk/sound/speak American. The employer may very well want to check my papers to make sure he is not hiring an illegal alien or to check my legal status. Why should I take offense to that? It'd be quite reasonable of him to do so. One look at the green card will clarify all his doubts. What's that? Five seconds of my time?

Because, if you have a driver's license and an unrestricted SS card, they are BREAKING THE LAW if they ask you!

That's why you should mind!

Of course I don't have a problem presenting my credentials entitling me to entry at a port of entry. Are we going to require passports at state borders too? Is that where we want to go? Where a trip to neighboring Georgia carries the same documentary burden as a trip overseas? Do I need a passport too if I want to board a plane from TPA to JFK and then again when I arrive at JFK? Do I have to clear customs, too, for this interstate travel? Really? That's what we want?

Different states, different gun laws.

Different states, different ID requirements.

Nothing more to it.

Just like citizenship being granted by birth regardless of no parent being a citizen, it's a freagin stupid law actually.
