Common sense dictates that anyone with an accent or who does not speak a word of English most likely was not born in the US, thus should warrant a simple check. The they are only going to target brown people is idiotic horeshit made by those who have no legitimate argument.

So naturalized citizens are all of a sudden second class citizens? I have an issue with that.

That is why we have E-Verify. It checks all God's children. Red or yellow, black or white.

So why can't police use it when they suspect someone may be an illegal alien?

Should all residents of Arizona now be advised to carry a US passport or passport card?

It's probably advisable to do so if the law is enforced.

We wouldn't have to go around in circles if you would just address the underlining issues you have. You dont trust our cops and you believe this would be abused on a grand scale. So your problem should be with the cops and the screening process that comes with hiring a cop.

Take something as simple as loitering, you probably believe that a white man loitering outside a mini-mart would more likely be overlooked than a black man. Do you take issue with loitering laws?

No, I do not believe that this has anything to do with the quality of the police or their hiring procedures. Rather I believe that this law puts too much power in the hands of individual officers, with no reasonable set of guidelines with which to reasonably apply it practically and in a fair manner. I am not saying that all, or most police are racist, I am saying that this law creates a bias in the decision making process which will lead to accusations of institutional racism.

I am saying this because similar laws were put in place in Britain in the early 80s and created just this exact outcome. The result were a series of notorious race riots.

My guess is that the loudest protests are coming from the illegal, mostly Hispanic communities.

Trying to change it into a discrimation/racial issue doesn't change the facts. Illegal immigration is a huge problem and sitting around with arms folded in fear that you MIGHT offend someone isn't really a solution.

No they are not second class. They will simply have to spend the extra five seconds showing their status, well until all of the illegal aliens piss off.

Extra security is now required because of 9/11, as that is how you deal with the situation at hand. When you have a legitimate problem, like having a greater number of illegal aliens than the entire population of 173 nations in your country, you take the appropriate measures to deal with it.

My God, why the big argument? It is so simple.

1. Institute a national ID card. Don't give me the "this will turn us to a "papers please" type of police state. We all have government issue ID's already. What is one more?

2. Make it a law that everyone carries it.

3. Deport anyone that doesn't have one.

Problem solved.

So...you're ready to be arrested if you decide to go for a walk around the block and leave your wallet at home?

Suspect based on what? That I have an accent and all the ID can produce is my driver's license? Horsecrap!

So what do you want them to use? Mental telepathy.

No one needs to stand up for my rights. I'm fully capable of doing so on my own IF I believe my rights are truly being violated. In this case, the proposed AZ law, I'm still not convinced any rights are being violated.

So being subjected to a greater burden of proof of identfication because you are non White isn't an infringement of your rights?

Are you effing crazy?

At what point then will you stand up for yourself?

Thus far, having a passport is entirely voluntary. So, you're actually advocating the introduction of a national, biometric ID for all citizens?

Wow, that's a CRAZY idea but it might just work!

Sorry, bro, but if I was in AZ, I'd take a heck of a lot more than 5 seconds to prove my status. Traveling within the US doesn't require any US passport but simply my FL state issued DL. That's what I have on me and not a thing more to prove any status I may or may not have. ** AZ.
