Arizonans and The Nation Torn On Immigration Bill

Come on, you are starting to sound like Steven here who refuses to put numbers on paper. Adding more unskilled labor to a market already suffering from chronic unemployment will worsen the situation. A temp work visa is a great idea, but only after the market picks up again. The thought that making millions of illegals legal will improve America's situation is at the very least ignorance; at the worst case, sheer lunacy.

It's like suggesting the best way to get out of debt is to borrow even more. NO, the best way is to cut back spending, generate more income and pay more debt off. Which in economic terms translates into: get rid of illegal aliens, allow Americans to get these jobs back and ensure they be be paid a legitimate wage. Mexico's poor is Mexico's problem - not the United States. The US has its own problems, like the 12,000,000 Californians living in poverty or the states Detroit like unemployment rate.

Your second paragraph I will ignore because it's stupid to relate one thing to another. As to the first, well, it's a complicated situation. The current situation is dependent on factors, some of which are known but many of which are unknowable, so the direct impact on the US economy on allowing migrant workers a legal path to compete with USC's for jobs that they currently undertake because USC's are refusing to do them is also not a precisely predictable one. It could be that ensuring that these jobs would be worked at a minimum wage rate will move these jobs out of the US. It could be that having these jobs worked at minimum wage would provide jobs for both legal migrants and USC's, or only USC's or only legal migrants. To simply suggest that the situation will be made worse is ignorant.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Ah Pike, still with your head in the sand. Their neighborhoods are already shitholes due to rampant crime and gangs. Not to mention, the sheer number of illegals still entering as we speak.

What about walking all over Americans and crapping on their sovereign nation for your own self gain?

Dude, his head is everywhere but between his shoulders.

So if there is a neighborhood full of bank robbers we should leave them alone as we wouldnt wanna piss them off.

I would like to believe that the police try to work with local communities and don't simply go around kicking in doors and strong-arming people.

Wouldn't you?

Well, at an airport, it is fair to assume that a 25 year-old Middle-Eastern looking man would be checked more thoroughly than a blonde Swedish grandmother. Is it fair? Of course not. Is it a reflection of the world we live in today? I'd say so.

At some points you just have to play the odds.

Yeah, there may be a lot of legal Hispanics in the U.S. but there are also a lot of ILLEGAL Hispanics living and working in the U.S. as well.

I'm sure it would be no massive inconvenience for legal Hispanics to carry an ID around in their wallet and produce it when asked to do so.

As for the illegals, you won't find me giving a damn.

An ID specifically for Hispanic people? Do you really think that any person would be happy to be singled out in that way and be forced to comply to some arbitrary law that everyone not of their racial/ethnic group isn't subject to?

I still don't understand how people continue to insist that white Americans would die before taking the kind of jobs that only illegals would work. Really, you still think that with current high unemployment rate?

Had Swedes wanted to attack the US then they would be rightfully screened. Common sense really.

Certain folks like to get angry at the system trying to protect itself rather than the actual perpetrator. The only way to be PC is to ensure everyone is tested. However, what fairness is there in that? Simply for the sole reason of ensuring the group most responsible is not harassed. Like saying the police should stop everyone when asking questioning a suspect, just so the suspect does not feel uncomfortable.

I wonder when in our society it become okay to inconvenience everyone for the sole sake of not offending the few. Some here clearly advocate we worry about the few being offended but totally ignore the feels or opinions of the majority being offended.

if the above is true. whats the problem w/ arizona's new law then?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

The issue as I see it, is that there is no way for the police to easily implement this law in a fair manner (or one which gives the impression of fairness or transparency) because it relies on the discretion of individual officers.

This isn't the first time something like this has been tried - something similar happened in the UK in the 1960s, and resulted in the Metropolitan Police aggressively targetting black men. Ever heard of the Brixton Riots? Well... that was the cause.

Your assumptions are outrageous! The law isnt even in effect yet and you already have the cops bustin down doors! You are the perfect example of whats gone wrong in America.

There is only one industry that illegals hold jobs that americans covent, construction. Do you really think that americans would pick produce for minimum wage and no benefits? Unemployment benefits pay more, as does working at taco bell.

I was just responding to Madame Cleo's post where she stated that most illegal aliens were from the south of the border and that the current available data backs this up. I used Hispanics as an example. Obviously, I didn't mean all Hispanic people would have a specific ID. All legal aliens should carry their valid ID/GC on their person at all times and it seems that the Federal law agrees with me.

But the OP article refers to hispanic USCs carrying numerous pieces of ID so that they aren't mistaken for illegals.

Thick twit? That must mean you are a narrow twit. Which indeed describes you perfectly.

Again, so WHAT? If these legal Hispanics are USCs, they'll carry a photocopy of their US passport and will produce it when required.

You guys are making this sound like a bigger deal than the Second Coming of Christ.
