Give me a break!

1st. thats total #######.. that anyone would say " hey manager charge me more for my meal"

I have, and would again, report that I have been undercharged or given too much change back. It's the right thing to do. What if it was you who made that mistake and you had to pay it back at the end of the night when your till turned up short? Or worse, lost your job?

It's always best, IMHO, to try to remeber that God (whatever name you call Him) is always watching, even if no one else can see ;)

It is pretty amazing to hear of people who would walk away from money and report being undercharged, but certainly not uncommon. It stems not from a "goody-goody" perspective, but more from what I would call an issue of Karma. You do the right thing in hope that good will come back to you. Every situation is different, and it certainly has a lot to do with how a person was raised as to how they would react in certain situations. In the case of a restaurant, I would not be inclinded to correct their mistake if it was in my favor, especially if the meal or service hadn't been good, or it was a place I would never go back to. I have however, asked in check-out lines, if they charged me for a certain item. Some stores will check you on the way out, and if that item is not on your receipt, can accuse you of shoplifting. Extreme example I know, but entirely possible. Finding a chip on the floor.... SNAG!!! That puppies MINE!!! :D Cup of chips? Hmmm... would not be clear cut what I would do without being in that situation. Anyway, just my 2 bits worth!

Karma yes! And also the Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!

let me ask this for all the goody goodies on VJ..

what if you found a Chip on the floor - would you

A.... Turn it in as lost and found?

B.... Would you keep it and cash it out?

I would either 1) leave it be and report it to security or 2) pick it up and again turn it into security.

As for the original post, I would be obligated to report the error...

Remember any casino you go to in the USA, you are being "watched" from the time you drive onto the parking lot to the time you leave the parking lot with ONLY 1 exception (restrooms are not under survellience)!

Does this mean someone is watching you? Nope but they do have the ability to see who played (or put money into it) said broken machine.

I work in a casino so I know a little about how to "properly" handle these types of situations!

As for the chip, if it happened while I was working, I am required to leave it be! This is why "leave it be and report it to security" is #1, I'm conditioned to this response. :P There is an exception to this rule also, if someone drops one behind the table (or I drop one), I must call a supervisor over who watches me pick it up and return it where it belongs...followed by the flipping of hands covered next! :o

Have you ever seen the casino workers (usually the cashiers) flipping their hands about almost wildly after handling money? There is a reason and I tell you THAT carries over into regular life as well! Also as a dealer I cannot take money from peoples hands so shopping I find myself setting the money on the counter for the clerk to retrieve! Conditioned response! :o

Speaking of work, time for me to go!

True, if the tables were turned it probably would not happen the way I would hope, I cannot change other people, only myself. (Darn you Dale Carnegie!)

The last part about being "ripped in a casino", not true unless you expect to go to the casino and win! Casinos are ENTERTAINMENT, you go to be entertained, have fun! Some people have fun playing slot machines and cards...sadly most of them EXPECT to win and then FEEL as though they have been ripped off or swindled when they do NOT win.

In general (not just the broken slot machine scenario), I think Robert said it correctly that it would really depend on the situation and your general belief in fairness. I've found a twenty dollar bill on the ground once and kept it thinking there's no way anyone can reclaim it. It's not delusional to expect fairness in whatever games you're playing. I suppose it has to do with the way each of us were raised. When I was a kid, I was taught to play fair and most of the kids I hung around with thought cheating was for sore losers. If you're going into a casino believing that you're being cheated on already, why gamble? That to me seems more LALA Fairy Land, than standing on principal.

You shouldn't really be in a casino to start with :lol:

Ok I'm off to crawl back under my rock in "lala fairy land" where people treat others the way they'd like to be treated in return. (F)

sadly most of them EXPECT to win and then FEEL as though they have been ripped off or swindled when they do NOT win.

It's called addiction
