Broken Slot Machine

Technically, it's a place of business. If there was a mistake on a receipt at a store or restaraunt, I would clear it up. So yes, I would let the management know about it. I don't think the question has anything to do with the fact that more people have gambled in casinos than others. It's a free choice to gamble as it is to do other "legalized" activities in certain parts of Nevada.

Life is filled with gambles, that is true. I usually think of the gamble I take everyday driving to work on the capital beltway. I don't particularly enjoy slots but Keno is cool because it has better odds if you play it right.

Give me a break! if there was a mistake on your receipt you would NOT go complaining about it.

Try again!

I really dont think there are that many goody goodies on this message board. except maybe the

unicorn and gum drop committee.

Had some fun with a phone box once that everytime you made a local call it would give you a couple of dollars back including the original 20c call cost when you hung up. As a young teenager I thought all my christmas's had come at once. Sadly they fixed it

Haha I feeel reaaally bad when I was a young kid I used to put rocks in with my recycled cans in the outside recycling machine.. I would get tons of money for 4 cans.. :(

shame on you.. now go outside and collect some cans...

You can choose to believe whatever you want about my morals. IMO, it's very difficult to assess someone's personal morals through a message board. Usually the mistakes are made in favor of the business, by the way. I'm sure there are times when I have not reported a discrepancy on a bill, my point is just because gambling is a shady business it does not justify people taking advantage of a broken slot machine. And what's a goody-goody in your definition? I guess I'm not one.

what if you found a Chip on the floor - would you

Ok, I'm trying to understand your points here in a logical and non-emotional manner. Example- I got charged extra for an appetizer at a meal, I report it, no problem there. I made a big purchase at Target and was not charged for an item by mistake, I would report it. As I will say again, it is also very rare for any business anywhere to make an error in the customer's favor and if they do consistently they go out of business eventually.

Ok, the gambling thing. First of all, I refuse to make the assumption that most people that play slots have questionable moral character. When I have been in casinos throughout the country I mostly see people on vacation, elderly people and tour groups. How can I judge someone's moral character if I have never met or talked with them on a personal level on a long term basis? Thinking jackpot? Possibly an extreme possibility, but IMO most people don't think that way when they play. It's fun for some people, a way to unwind and socialize with their friends.

The chip? I would just walk away from it. I guess we agree to disagree here. ;)

I sorry but I DISAGREE...

you need to get out More casinos are not just for the elderly

I also disagree, it's funny how you always go back to the personal insults and you never consider my whole post but instead pick pieces out of it.

get a life and stay out of the casinos!

I don't think its #######. I report it when I have not been charged for something, have been undercharged or the cashier gives me extra change.

I would consider a single chip like finding a penny on the ground. There is no way to return it to its rightful owner. However, if I found a cup of chips, I would absolutely turn it in as someone would most likely realize they left it behind, similar to finding a wallet - even a wallet without ID.

when i worked in a club overseas, the majority of the slot machine players (not the random ones, the die hard players) were almost exclusively asian, primarily korean. and they were not old or on vacation.

it's one thing to play slot machines as an occasional thing, this crowd played it and would happily spend their husband's entire paycheck in one night.

It is pretty amazing to hear of people who would walk away from money and report being undercharged, but certainly not uncommon. It stems not from a "goody-goody" perspective, but more from what I would call an issue of Karma. You do the right thing in hope that good will come back to you. Every situation is different, and it certainly has a lot to do with how a person was raised as to how they would react in certain situations. In the case of a restaurant, I would not be inclinded to correct their mistake if it was in my favor, especially if the meal or service hadn't been good, or it was a place I would never go back to. I have however, asked in check-out lines, if they charged me for a certain item. Some stores will check you on the way out, and if that item is not on your receipt, can accuse you of shoplifting. Extreme example I know, but entirely possible. Finding a chip on the floor.... SNAG!!! That puppies MINE!!! :D Cup of chips? Hmmm... would not be clear cut what I would do without being in that situation. Anyway, just my 2 bits worth!

Yes  my husband will ALWAYS do the honest thing and report mistakes. it drives me mad sometimes, but he believes firmly in kharma and that is why. I know he would have reported the broken slot machine- much to my dismay!! :D

Here is a question for all those < including myself > those that would keep the Chip. would you still keep it of you knew the value of it was

High doller? assuming its well over 500.00. would you keep it? or turn it in? rember the chips dont have values on them..

my response I would still keep the money even if its value was 10,000

depends on how I find it.. if there is no one around and its clearly no one near me I would keep it.. I don't steal but if I find something I might as well keep it .. the casino will just put it back in their stash and that is money not lost for them.. why should they get free money when I can? but I would never take a chip from someone. Anything that doesn't have a name I would keep most likely.. if i find a wallet I will take no cash and return it.. but not to a business to the person themselves.. :D
