Slot machine multiplies deposit by 10 By The Associated Press

Fri Aug 4, 7:22 AM ET

BRIDGEPORT, Ind. - Gamblers raked in nearly half a million dollars over two days on a slot machine that multiplied by 10 the amount of money that players put in, a newspaper reported.

Caesars Indiana lost $487,000 before a player notified officials of the problem with the machine, The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., reported Friday.

Kathryn Ford of Louisville, Ky., realized something was wrong July 23 when she and her husband sat down at two of the machines, called Extra Money.

When she put in a $20 bill, the machine registered it as $200. She tried another $20 bill and the same thing happened, she said.

Ford said she put eight $20 bills in the machine and received vouchers that could be redeemed for $1,600 in cash — without even playing.

Other gamblers noticed.

"There was even a young woman who jumped in while I was sitting there. She ... reached across me, popped a hundred in, popped out a thousand and then she took off," Ford said.

Ford and her husband reported the problem to a security officer and casino officials determined the machine had a switch set for use in the Philippines instead of the U.S. instructing it to multiply credits by 10.

If I were the one to put the money in and notice the problem, I most certainly would. I don't know where I'd say anything if I noticed it when someone else was using the machine. I'd probably just stare at them with an evil look, hoping they'd be honest. I don't know. Kind of a tricky situation.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

No way would I tell! But I am extremely broke right now. I have no problem taking money from a casino. It's like gambling on which machine will be broken and pay off big time...or something...

It's difficult to decide what's wrong when the money doesn't really BELONG to anyone.

Good strategy: Let's you keep the honest appearance while you pocket the cash...

Yeah being oblivious to things keeps my answers honest and my pockets full. If I really noticed a mistake I would say something but I daydream so I miss alot. I was in Vegas once and was up $1000 on a slot machine and I didn't even realize I was just pushing buttons while looking for a waitress to bring me a drink.

The casino is essentially stealing from every visitor. Would I tell? Hell no!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
