Just a thought!

Can't the stepfather adopt the child?

I adopted my K4 anak right after she arrived here and she got her US citizenship shortly after?

My daughter who was 19 came on a K4 visa but she got married to a USC before the AOS was denied. She was able to adjust her status through her husband.

Do yourself a favor and get off this message board and go see an immigration lawyer that does nothing but family based immigration. That is what I would have done the day I got the letter. Find someone that is truly an expert in the field. There are thousands of lawyers that will take your money and never help you. That is why I say get a lawyer that doe NOTHING but family based immigration law.
