Ok so applying for citizenship on the basis of marriage. I also have a green card since 2006 (expiring 2019)

Anyway, we have 2 kids. One is 6 yrs old and a newborn, well not so new , 5 months old. I have not filed for her birth certificate and I was double checking checklist for tomorrow and I saw that I need to bring b-certs of all children!!!!! I dont have one for our baby!!! :( Obviously, I cant do anything cuz my interview is tomorrow at 9am!!!

Is this gonna cause a major problem??? :(

Im blaming myself. I thought I got everything.

My interview is in Detroit.

TIA!

I am not sure - you may find that they will 'hold' on a final decision until they get the birth certificate or they may approve your application without it. They will probably be curious as to why you haven't filed for it before now. So, file for it today - you can probably do it online - and at least you have proof that you have filed for it. I am sure you will need the birth certificate for other reasons as well so it is a very good thing to have. Good luck tomorrow.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

You should have received the hospital birth certificate when she was born. The one with her footprint on it.

That one is a legal document and good to use. I still dont have my sons birth certificate and he was born in 2005 but the Hospital certificate is fine to use.

My understanding is to show proof of a marriage and that means any of the suggested items they listed. If you have the b-cert for your 6 year old child, then that should be enough. Sometimes they go through the interview without even asking for the list of evidence they requested, but certainly correct this and get the b-cert for your 5 year old child.

Senyorita80-Congrats on your baby. Huh? You have a 5 month old and you still don't have their birth certificate (heck, I was complaining after 8 weeks, and then found out that they sent it the wrong address, and had to inquire further about it....but in your case for 5 months..wow..that is a long time!)? Did they forget to give you the paperwork at the hospital? Did someone lose the paperwork? Did someone forget to file the paperwork for the certificate? Definitely inquire about that missing birth certificate....

Well, you can't do anything about not having a birth certificate in time for the interview tomorrow....

But...

You can file for one as soon as possible, as you definitely need it, for many reasons, regardless!

What you can do now too is fill out the forms for the birth certificate, and bring a copy of that form for the interview, to show that you are filing for the birth certificate. As well, bring any additional evidence of your child (hospital certificate, birth announcement, photos, etc.) to the interview.

Heck, bring your child with you too, so they can see the actual proof in-person...lol....

If it makes you feel better...

For my situation, likewise, I had to wait for my son's birth certificate too, and there was a few weeks delay on this too...

And I barely got it in time to send the application in....lol....

So I also sent in everything else (birth cert. application form, hospital cert., birth announcement, photos, etc....) regarding my son, as well, in case I couldn't get the birth certificate in time....

And they were ok with all that information too...

And yes, I brought my then 3 month old son to the interview too (though he and my husband waited in the waiting room..)...

So the bottom line is: Bring all that you can about your child, for now, and that should be sufficient enough for now...And make sure you eventually get that birth certificate too!

Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey too.

Gee my granddaughter had both her birth certificate and social security card after two weeks from her birth date. Have to be wide awake and check of any errors, done free the first time. Yes, I love my wife, super sweet woman, but was a little careless when checking over the birth certificate of her daughter when she was born in Venezuela. After 13 years, that cost a small fortune to have those Venezuela made typos corrected and had to be done in a court of law with judges that wouldn't move unless you gave them some US dollars under the table.

I had my own share of problems with Illinois when they butchered my mothers maiden name and my last name. Only cost me eight bucks, but added three months to the process, but tons of letters. Was with my son and daughter-in-law when the application came in for a birth certificate, they were both a mess after having a baby, so I proofread it for them. Wasn't ever paranoid about birth certificates before my experience with the USCIS, but am now.

Thanks guys! No, Its MY fault on the birth certificate. I totally forgot to request it. Although I got the hospital certificate and stuff I was still nervous. Anyway story short (I had my interview this morning) All the interviewer asked was the baby's full name. DId not ask for birth certificates or whatever. LOL so funny I brought with me enough evidence .. I even took with me my baby and thats all shes gonna ask - her full name and DOB. Haha I guess I was too paranoid.
