Hi everyone,

so my fiancee (he's Dutch) and I have been waiting with bated breath for our NOA2, and discussing next steps of the immigration process, and we had a question I can't seem to find an answer to online, namely: if (and when) he has his interview for the K1 in Holland, will they tell him if he's "passed" then, or will he get some kind of notification in the mail as per the rest of the process? We're just curious, and thankful for any advice you can give!

Hi there,

He should be told right there at the interview whether or not he is approved. In case they need some additional documentation ,they might also tell you something like approved pending additional documentation, or the other thing that sometimes also occurs,if the consular officer is not convinced about something, then they might put you in Additional Processing(AP).

But they do however let you know of the outcome there and then, unless it is one of those special circumstances.

In the case of the embassy in Manila, some are told they have been approved face-to-face by the CO at the conclusion of the interview (as we were!), while others are told to return to their seats and wait for their number to be called for further instructions. Which invariably meant additional documentation was to be requested.

My question is in the case of a flat denial is the applicant always told directly that they have not been approved? Or do they at times find out after the fact when clearing at the last counter?

Many folks emerged from their interviews looking downright confused with question marks dancing above their heads, asking various staff how they were supposed to know what the result was...

This is a bit off-topic, but I was shocked at the lack of general preparedness by applicants. This may only be an anomaly of the Philippines, but it seemed everyone was searching through messy, unorganized stacks of documents for items that weren't there. People were dressed in street clothes as if this wasn't one of the most important days of their lives. And, in general, there didn't appear to be a great deal of forethought put into the process.

Of course, that all inevitably can affect and set the tone of your interview, and in borderline cases possibly the mood of the CO and the eventual degree of questioning and suspicion you experience.

Good luck, though! If you go in very organized with everything in order, dress appropriately, and are knowledgeable and courteous, then it boils down to you simply meeting the requirements. And if you know for certain you do, that alleviates a lot of the nervousness and a pink slip doesn't seem so far away.

If it helps - you can read Embassy/Consulate reviews to gleam some insight about your particular Embassy/Consulate in the Consulate/Embassy Reviews section. For the most part, your fiancé should know how they did right away.

My husband is also Dutch. We both went to the K1 interview in Amsterdam. After they asked ME, the USC, most of the questions, lol...the guy looked at my (then) fiance and said, "Welcome to America." The interview itself didn't take much time at all, and they were very nice.

They will tell you then and there after they ask you all the questions and deal with your paperwork whether you are approved or not. They will then tell you that your passport will be mailed to you (if you passed), or either tell you that further information will be needed.
