I am aware that I will still need a work permit. I already have all the required documents needed to obtain it. Also the schools will be the ones that will get the work permit as I am sure you already know. But my first concern is getting the 5 year visa. I actually go to work in June for one month then pending my performance they will give me a 2 year contract and get all the work permit paperwork done. Jerome

Congratulations! What school?

Hey Jerome have you met any other Americans with your same situation? Last time I was in Saigon I went to US consulate and met 7 other men like us trying to straighten out their fiance/wives visa problem. I am wondering if you have met others who now live in Vietnam because US consulate denied their visas? My fiance got the same wording as you on the blue sheet stating they felt we were trying to evade immigration laws. Mybe you can email me privately you did once before last year. riggsbeeclay@yahoo.com Thanks.

The 5 year visa exemption only allows for a 90 day maximum stay per entry. It is intended for tourist activity, not for long-term living.

Yes, and you can pay I think $10 and fill out a form 4 times a year so that you don’t actually have to “leave” the country every 90 days. I just have not got the work permit yet; my job does not start for another month, so I just wanted to get the easiest visa possible without jumping through to many hoops. But thanks for the info on the 90 day part, I know the first time I read the article that I missed that part. My only concern now is that if I go through the trouble to get the 5 year visa exemption will it be a waste since I am planning on getting a business visa so that I will be able to work? Again as I said I don’t mind doing the visa exemption then refilling for a different type of visa, my main concern right now is that my visa is good only until the 19th of June 2010. Jerome
