My AOS has been approved and my Green Card is supposed to arrive in the mail soon. After I see my Green Card in hands I would like to plan a trip back home in Romania. I would like to stay for a couple of weeks. One of my "friends" told me it would be "safe" to apply for a "re-entry permit", because she "heard" some "stories" about people trying to come back and they couldn't because they didn't have their re-entry permits and that this "re-entry permit" was the only thing "recognized" for reentering the States.

I spent some time checking the official website and it seems that re-entry permits are required only if you are planning to stay outside US for more than 1 year which is not my case.

I guess I just want to confirm what I have been reading: when I come back to US-do I need to present my passport and my conditional Green Card, right?Or do I need anything else? Also, I have to mention that there was an overstay involved prior applying for AOS, but like I said my AOS has been approved.

Can someone help me clear this up?

Thank you so much!

As like you said, you ONLY need your passport and conditional green card. Re-entry permit is needed for whom travel outside US for more than 1 year.

Congrats for your GC!

Congrats!!! I already purchased my ticket and I will go on May 2nd to Romania. I am pretty sure you just need your GC and the Romanian passport nothing else. And the overstay is not an issue anymore ( it would have been if you would have used the AP to enter the country after overstay). As

Unique said re-entry permit is only if you plan to stay longer than a year in Romania.Have a great vacation back home!
