Original Tax returns

Hi all,

In regards to the I-134 form, I intend to present my other half's tax returns as part of her affadavit of support.

The problem here is that I have the last 2 years tax return, the 2008 one is a direct original, the 2009 one is a print out from her accountant of a digital submission.

In regards to submitting these as evidence of support, what do people think is the best way to proceed as the UK embassy site says:

notarized copies of his or her latest federal income tax return;

Now is willingness to submit an original, albeit a digital print off better than this? Or do I need to be looking towards getting a certified copy made, even though I am not sure if I can do this as the documents are not in my name?

Regards,

Arch

Ideally, the best thing to do is get PROPER tax transcripts, then there is no question as all Embassies accept this without any question.

Do not get the briefer Account Transcript. Dial 1-800-829-1040 and keep following the prompts on the telephone. Do not get the Account transcripts. Get the regular many page transcripts which I believe is ultimately option 2. Keep following the prompts for things like tax history or tax records. Very shortly, one or two levels in, it prompts you using the words "like transcripts..."

Good luck.

Long live the embassy websites for being completely vague.

I was just going to say, you can get them faxed quickly... :thumbs:

In re. the digital printout, many people (perhaps most) now file their taxes electronically. There is no "original" form to get a copy of. A digital printout of the forms is fine, as long as it contains every form that would have been submitted to the IRS if a paper return had been submitted, including supporting documents like W2's and 1099's.

Most consulates prefer transcripts because they confirm what information was actually submitted to the IRS. Anyone could download forms from the IRS website and write pretty much anything they wanted on them.

Excellent, glad to hear it.

Good luck.

EDITED to add: I should have thought to say the tax transcripts can be faxed.
