Your vegetarianism almost got people killed! :jest:

I know! Like the old dude who watched everything happen, watched me fall over and then chase after my car...and then came up to me with a smirk on his face: "So you cracked your drive shaft, huh?" and walked off.

I think someone in the parking lot must have called 911 because a cop did show up. (They can't/don't respond to incidents in private lots usually.) Probably thought it would be a hit and run. Except for the fact that the bottom half of my car was ON THE GROUND. I'm not going anywhere. ####### was like: "So you hit that car, are you going to say anything?" and I was like /bawlbawlbawl my eyes out, "YES!" here, let me drive away.

Makes you wonder why they're called "people skills" since it seems most "people" don't have them :)

blame others for not following a simple rule of setting the e-brake upon exiting the vehicle ...

bugs bunny was right ...

What's funny is that I used to do this naturally and was taught that when I learned how to drive. It was my husband that broke me of this habit because he hated it when I put his parking brake on for no reason. Anyone else have this experience?

I used to always use the parking brake too until a mechanic once told me I shouldn't, unless I'm actually parked on a hill. So then I stopped and the habit stuck. I still remember to do it on hills though.

God I hope you didn't break your modding cherry on us old fools. That would be what they call a bad omen.

Well, I should have more people skills than evidenced. I was REALLY freaked out after watching my car roll down a hill. The only reason I managed to do anything was because the Sears had some awesome management people who collected info while I was pretty much out of it. There were two of them and I really want to get them a gift card or two to somewhere. However, I didn't get their names and I don't think "hey that woman with the mullet" would be appropriate. :(

prior to exiting the vehicle ... if people don't set the e-brake ... well ...

now ... if a mechanical failure happens ... and a person doesn't safe (set the e-brake) while exiting the vehicle that is stopped on a hill ... give us all a break ...

exit a vehicle that is stopped on a slope (hill) and not set the brake ... there are multiple state drivers ed instruction people (and probably manuals) that will state to set the brake prior to exiting the vehicle ...

if otto can't see the logic or safety or take a joke ... too bad ...

meanwhile ... i read you 5x5

It is hilarious that this thread seems to be breaking out into acrimony. It seemed so unlikely.

Meh. I really WAS taught to use the e-brake all the time and did so routinely until I had to drive my husband's car everywhere. He always gave me ###### for putting it on so I un-habituated myself to doing it automatically. So obviously it didn't pop into my head when my thoughts were like: "oh ######, what just happened to my car? Who am I going to call? I hope they have a phone in the store because my cell is at home. Dammmit, I was just thinking earlier this morning that I should bring my cell. Did I let my car run out of oil AGAIN? My dad's gonna be pissed." as you're hopping out of the car.

And for what it's worth, I didn't stop the car in the middle of a hill. (Anyone around KUMC knows what I'm talking about.) I thought I'd parked the car on flat ground, at the top of the hill, until it rolled away.
