Actually, this illustrates the downside (side-effects) of unabated freedom of choice. Where the mother is free to do as she pleases and without any consequences for her actions, yet the rest of society is forced to pay for her decisions. Then you have teachers like Shal who have to put up with this #######, as the kids inevitably end up screwed up, in schools. Not to mention in a vicious cycle of poverty.

This is weird, there was no report of her receiving food stamps. With all of those children, she'd receive a substantial amount for food, monthly. Sure, she got some funds for rent, and used it, but #######?

Maybe she needs to pitch her life as a reality tv show, and get some monies from that. I hope she has public assistance for medical stuff, get her tubes tied, at a minimum.

Not commenting on this case specifically, but there are women who see having children as the only way to some sort of economic security. They see little opportunity for work, or education in their communities and decide that having kids is the only future they can have.

So is this an indictment of a social service system allowing a woman like this to basically survive without working, or an economic system that has not produced an alternative.

My only impulse is to hope these kids have enough to get by on but that their life become a warning flag to others.

Too often the "rewards" of peoples errant ways seem to socially encourage the very behavior which brought them to the place they are at.

I'm not forgetting anything. I haven't made any comment about her plight or how she got where she is now. My response was to this absurd notion that this story can be extrapolated to illustrate that there is some huge problem and that this is a reflection of morality and mentality of a 'certain section' of US society. Poppycock. People of all political views and opinions, people of all colours and ethnicities and all financial stratas make rash and ill conceived decisions which often have financial consequences on society. However, if you want to get vitriolic about who really causes pockets to be emptied, don't focus on poor gits like this women, her cost to you is infinitesimally small, as is the sum total of cost to you of everyone who is in a similar position. Talk about making mountains out of molehills, this is making Mt Everest out of a mouse dropping.
