I wish I'd known about all of this a year ago... so much information.

Anyway, when I was in the UK, my doc prescribed the implant Implanon (inserted in the arm and lasts 3 years). Bless her, she thought that the whole deal of moving countries, getting married and having everything brand new might lead me to be a bit forgetful and overwhelmed when it came to remembering to take a one-a-day BC. The first few months were great, no nothing to worry about, then suddenly it started being just like a regular cycle without the need to remember to take a pill every day and stop for a week. Alas, though, after a year the implant decided it didn't like me and gave me about 3 months of hell, at which point my lovely US obgyn (not sure how you write that, but you know what I mean), well he took it out, and gave me Estrostep, a progressive pill you take every day for 21 days. He also gave me a few months free, bless him.

So there you have it. I googled online before talking to said doc, but I was a bit hesitant about the shots as they got a lot of bad press in the UK, and the cool 4 months without hassle BC was not on the market at the time - if it was he didn't mention it. I wasn't looking for another implant particularly as the only ones after the one in your arm were rather... intrusive... and there was no mention of a ring, and if there was, i missed it.

The only problem is, when I had the implant I didn't need to worry that I would forget. Side effects by the end of year 1 (of which it lasts 3 years) outweighed any desire to sit back and not think about it, so we had to get it removed. Now my only fear is that I might forget it and end up surprising my husband with the not so happy news of the patter of tiny feet.

And only my mother would be pleased about that...

I still have 5 months worth of pills, then I have to find my pills here, and I haven't seen it yet. If anyone heard of this 28 pills a month option, to be taken without interruption, please let me know the name so I can compare hormone dosages.

The pills I use have 28 pills but the last 7 pills are placebos..... they just include them for women who might forget to start a new pack in 7 days  ..... not sure if your pills work the same way

No, mine are regular monophasic pills, but since you don't stop taking them they included an extra 7 pills in the box. Either way you take it continuosly so if I just get the same dosage in a 21 pills box I can still do the same as I do right now.

My big Q now is how to get a prescription without having to pay so much for a doc until I can afford a health plan or until my husband gets a new job with benefits.

I feel like I'm pushing this drug, but Seasoniq (the one I use) is so new that they're throwing around samples like candy, at least in my neck of the woods. I'm on my second 3 month pack, and I haven't paid for either. I called the doctor's office, and they said my particular insurance didn't cover it so why not come over and pick up a sample. So I did. No matter what drug you pick, you can probably get a free sample of it, so I suggest you pick up the one with the longest-lasting free sample! ;)

eta: As for the doctor fee, isn't there some sort of clinic like Planned Parenthood in PR? There must be a cheap way to have a 1-time appointment and get it over with!

I tried to edit to say that maybe everything I said was useless since you are in PR, and I don't know how different it is. That place I listed up there is at

I already got that address, thank you. I'll ask my husband to call them and see what we can do (I'd call myself but my spanish is really crappy).

Thanks for all those tips, I just hoped I'd stay on mine, as I tend to have issues when changing pills around.

I went to planned parenthood to get mine. Doc's visit was only about $20, and the pills themselves only cost me $7 per pack.

I thought with what I made I'd have to pay more on their sliding scale, but it's actually incredibly affordable.

I've got the Ortho tricyclen low does pills, and they are the easiest on me (hormonally) I've ever taken.

OMG check this out guys! It's the invention we've all been waiting for, and now it's finally here. The one size fits all, spray on condom.

It works like this: the man puts his ####### into a can, the can sprays his ####### with latex, and voila! You've got yourself a rubber that fits like a tailor-made, one-of-a-kind glove!

Jan Vinzenz Krause from the Institute for Condom Consultancy says the product aims to be "the perfect condom," ready to go in five seconds flat. It should also serve as a more effective contraceptive, as it will fit better, and won't slip.

The product isn't in stores yet -- scientists are making sure the latex is distributed evenly, and working to optimize the curing process -- but you can expect to see multiple strengths and colors by 2008.

I've been on Seasonale for a couple years and mostly love it. Is Seasoniq the same idea by a different manufacturer, or do you mean Seasonale?

I'm having some problems with Seasonale (weight gain, spotting for the last 2 weeks of each pack) but would rather put up with them than go back to having a heavy 6- to 8-day period every four weeks ... but if there's been another monophasic pill approved in to be taken in a 13-week format (absent any medical necessity, since being basically disabled for 6-8 days every four weeks is considered inconvenience, not a medical condition), then I'd be thrilled to try it out.

BTW Seasonale is the only pill I've ever had that made my periods lighter and reduced my cramps. [Okay, not entirely true. With no BC, they last 8-10 days; with 28 day pills, 6-8. But just as heavy.] Now I only have one day every three months of really bad cramps, I can still work a full day and everything. And my period is only 4-5 days and not even that heavy. So I totally recommend it if you're willing to put up with some spotting (which is a really common side effect).

Before I left the UK I made sure I got six months supply of my contraceptive pill. I am now down to my last month and panniking! I still dont have any medical insurance and dont know what to do now. I have researched planned parenthood online and it looks like you have to pay for contraception, it looks pretty expensive too! Just wanted to know what all the ladies did? If you have insurance does it cover you for this and if I took out insurance now would it cover me? If you dont have insurance what did you do and how much did it cost? Also, I understand planned parenthood is subsidised, will this have any implications on me not becoming a 'public charge' in the US?

Thanks!

P.S - Absinence is not an option!

I had this issue when I was out of work for more than a year, with no insurance. I was on disability, which didn't qualify me for a discount, so the cost of one pack was $14, however, the more I bought at once, the cheaper it was, something like $1 off each, so I think I got 12 packs for $120. Anyway, your status does not matter, they provide to anyone and everyone who comes in. And many of the larger clinics have regular health services, too, if you need them....for colds, ear infections, lab work, prescriptions for other issues, such as blood pressure, thyroid, and even referrals for more serious situations.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.
