Anthem HMO Maine - it's free, baby!!

My suggestion - if you're not looking at trying for a baby anytime soon, why not look at one of the longer-term options like the depo injection, the implant or an IUD? Ok, it's a higher initial outlay, but then you don't have to think about it for ages! I have an IUD fitted, which covers me for 5 years. It means I don't have to think about contraception until November 2007.

Man, I am glad for my tricare prime - they pay 100% of the cost of my pills...

Same here! :) I was suprised when I got them for free because the military is usually very family orientated and I thought they would be against BC.

Urg i hate the US system! It's not so much the paying for it, it's the fact that the Docs push different pills on you. I specifically asked for a type and dosage of pill (to match what I was on in the UK) and the doc prescribed me 3 different pills before he got it right! (booooo yasmin booooooooooooooo) needless to say my system got all messed up.

I think I'm going to do the 'go back to the UK' thing. At least I know they will give me what I ask for and not fob me off. Also, if you get a repeat prescription you can get 1 years worth...

I'm intrigued by the idea of the ring or IUD though...apparently they give you far less weird reactions than the regular pills. (She says feeling all weepy as per usual). Urg. Stupid hormones!

I've used Planned Parenthood in the US and didn't have to pay for anything because I wasn't working (I was living in France and had come home to visit and stock up on bc pills). As other posts have stated they use a sliding scale. Also, check out your local health department's family planning area. They offer contraceptives on a sliding scale. It may not be as comprehensive as Planned Parenthood (nova ring, patch, depo, etc).

$25 a month to take the pill!!! So I have worked out that by having sex twice a week thats like nearly $3 a shag!!!!

It gets cheaper if you have sex more often. Do it every day, and it's less than a buck a pop.

good advice

Indeed - Rodjanaa married such a guy. Life is grand, I've gotta tell you!

Yodrak

And remember, "pull and pray," although usually effective, isn't an actual form of bc.

"Snip and grin" works pretty well though!

I don't recall any immediate grin ... I think it was more of a grimace.

But I have permasmile now.

I have 3 months of Cilest that I dont need, I could mail it to you :)

You know, similar to the idea of paying for a flight to the UK and getting the pills myself I was actually thinking of getting my two sisters and a couple of friends to go to the family planning clinic and get some pills then send them to me! Only thing is it could be dangerous to keep on taking these pills and never see a doctor to check your blood pressure and stuff! Im shocked though, $25 a month to take the pill!!! So I have worked out that by having sex twice a week thats like nearly $3 a shag!!!!

Twice a day would make it a better bargain.

Man, I am glad for my tricare prime - they pay 100% of the cost of my pills...

Same here! :) I was suprised when I got them for free because the military is usually very family orientated and I thought they would be against BC.

I got snipped by a military doc.

And yes, Tricare Prime is the closest thing to Free Health care  $460/year regardless of family size!!!! It cost $0 to add Marlene since I already have it for myself and my children.

My mom is going to buy it here in Brazil and send it to me every 3 months! We don't need a prescription to get it here... just go to the drugstore and ask for it(of course you go to the doctor first to see what's best for you, but after that you don't need to really)

It's cheap to buy, cheap to send and pretty easy to do so I'm all set!:star:

It depends on the drug..... we've never had problems sending stuff to the US. Actually, I sent Dave's mom some pain killers that were really expensive there once and the customs sent it back to me. Then I sent it again and it got to her.

It can't be anything that is illegal there. And I'm almost sure it can't be over a 3 month supply. :star:

britbird,

Are IUDs available again in the USA? All the manufacturers stopped selling them in this country a few years back because the were getting sued for some of those "far less weird reactions".

I never really gave the pill much thought....... I think I'll start stocking up now! When I go to the docs they only check my blood pressure and ask me the usual questions. I guess if your family sent you some over you could just get your blood pressure checked and keep your eye on it (they have blood pressure machines in walmart!!).....

NHS - I'll never complain about it again!
