Hey guys,

I am a Canadian citizen and am currently completing an EMT- Basic course in the US and would like to stay down here to work for a few years. I want to get a Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine at one of the local Universities, but I first must have 2 years of field experience as an EMT-Basic.

I am a little confused about the whole process of getting a work visa. Has anybody done something similar and could point me in the right direction?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you for your time.

I also wanted to add that I found the "Other workers" in "Third Preference EB-3" under Permanent workers on the USCIS website that might be what I'm looking for.

Thoughts?

Most ppl here are interested in Family Immigration and not work-based immigration. Can't even begin to suggest which other web portal you should be using, sorry.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I would check your state laws about certification first. I was advised by the EMT and Nursing departments of the local community college that in Arizona, for example, if you are not permanently resident they don't allow you to sit your certification exams. You can get your credit hours and pass the course, but you are not licensed to practice.

It's my understanding that as a non-resident, to be employed in the US you would need an employer to sponsor you and they have to demonstrate that there was no equally qualified American/ LPR available to fill the position.

It's going to be extremely difficult, sorry.
